Hopefully there enough low wage jobs for illegals and Americans.
Quote:
While a majority of jobs lost during the downturn were in the middle range of wages, a majority of those added during the recovery have been low paying, according to a new report from the National Employment Law Project.
The disappearance of midwage, midskill jobs is part of a longer-term trend that some refer to as a hollowing out of the work force, though it has probably been accelerated by government layoffs.
“The overarching message here is we don’t just have a jobs deficit; we have a ‘good jobs’ deficit,” said Annette Bernhardt, the report’s author and a policy co-director at the National Employment Law Project, a liberal research and advocacy group.
Yep, this is a restructuring. Painful. That is for sure. Without real innovation, I don't see how we can protect high wage jobs with automation and rapid skill development abroad. We need to invest heavily in innovation and the skills of our work force, but it is probably easier for the companies to just lay off the people, and offer to rehire them without union wages or benefits. From the point of view of a CEO, why invest in the American worker, when profits are exploding with the current situation?
Some conservatives have been saying that US wages need to fall in order to become competitive in the global economy.
LMAO...that's the laughable thing about this thread. The OP is a conservative Republican (and no...he's not an independent), and makes a thread that puts down the Republican Dream. All of a sudden they don't like their wonderful idea that 95% of us should work for slave wages while 5% become trillionares? When did this change occur?
Well, DUH... What do you expect? All of the high-paying jobs have long ago been outsourced to India and China, and that's thanks to both the Republicans AND the Democrats AND the big business interests.
What little benefits remained have also been slashed, so now the only jobs that exist in America are: (1) high-level jobs for an elite of highly-educated / rich folks, and (2) minimum wage Walmart Greeter or McDonald's meat hose operator for everyone else.
There is a structural jobs problem here in America, and both sides talk as if it didn't exist.

There's nothing partisan or ideological about globalism --- the monopoly we gained on high-paying capital-intensive industry post-1945 has been eroding under global competitive pressures for decades. NAFTA was endorsed by Clinton and signed into law by him because everybody except the economically-naive understood this.
The answer remains what it has always been; if you want a good job in a good future, get an education in something which is likely to be in demand. If you pursue a degree in LGBT studies or similar intellectual fingerpainting, don't expect much when (or if) you go looking for work. And regardless of where you wind up, the whip is being cracked harder than it was back in the laid-back Sixties.
Information can't be stopped by tariffs or similar legislation. Asian English-speakers don't write code any better than Americans, but their societies don't have the huge burdens of regulation and bureaucracy that we have opted for here. The irony of all this is that we don't have to scrap much of it -- tort reform, for example, would be relatively painless except for the protected elite and unmotivated mass who benefit from it.
The choice is ours ... just take a little closer look at the people arguing to keep our heads in the sand.
I'm not one to defend President Obama but if you look at the biggest group of unemployed people it's those with no high school diploma followed by those with just a high school diploma. They aren't going to step into any high paying jobs. Creating jobs for them is a good thing. They will be competing with illegal aliens for lower paying jobs. They are the group of Americans most likely to be hurt by illegal immigration. They are one of the reasons why illegal immigration enforcement is needed.

Again, this is why our economy will never recover. For a middle class to exist there needs to be blue collar jobs.
Not everyone can afford college so these people will be at a disadvantage for the rest of their lives not based on work ethic, intelligence etc..
Also from what Ive seen. A lot of Americans are just not smart people.Doesnt mean they wouldnt bust their ass and work hard though.
Both Democrats with their elitist attitude thinking only people with master degrees should have living wage careers or Republicans who think you should make the same wage as someone in China are to blame for the state of the economy we have today.
