A dress doesn't make a man a woman anymore than a pair of pants makes a woman a man.

A man that understands wearing a dress to be a threat to his manhood isn't much of a man.

What horrendous thing has happened in the world because gender roles were challenged? Women got the right to vote?

Males and females have different biological roles in reproduction. That's it. Gender is nothing more than a social construction. Who cares if some people want to make that construction more malleable than most people generally do?

No. I strongly support women's right to vote - just like the western states women's suffrage leaders who were Republicans did.

I talked to my mother yesterday - she mostly votes Democratic - but her and I agree on this - both parties are responsible for placing partisan politics over the good of the country. My mother may have made the mistake of voting for President Obama(I voted for John McCain)but she understands the fundamental issue - that people are not putting "Country First" as was the McCain/Palin slogan. We must put partisanship aside and just get things done.

Mitt Romney will do so.

Now I just have to convince mi madre - so our votes don't cancel each other out.

I wore Polynesian lavalavas when I was in Hawaii, but don't often do in on the East Coast. But that's way different from wearing dresses.

Neither do dresses and skirts. There are MANY other cultures in which men do wear skirts and dresses. Monks, Scottish men, Samoan men, Middle Eastern Men etc.

Men's skirts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read up. It seems that only Western culture has a problem with it, and we shouldn't. People should wear what they feel comfortable in.

Why don't you explain why you want the gender roles to be confused?

I'm not talking about occupations - I think that it is great that you have an A&P license and also are a licensed pilot(presumptive by your name - I have read your statements that you have an A&P - and I respect that).

However women and men do have different societal roles - and in the specific instance that we are discussing - apparel - it is not appropriate for a male to wear a dress or a skirt.
In western culture, maybe. We're so hung up on what we're 'supposed' to do that we don't realize that it doesn't matter. It really doesn't. At all.

As for gender roles being confused... why does it matter? The football player and MMA fighter I know who wear sarongs know they're men, I know they're men..why should it matter?

It's super comfy though, right?

Wearing a lavalava or sarong is great! I have no issues whatsoever with men wearing them. I also know a guy who wears utilikits on the weekends

So everybody is all up in arms about bullying. What exactly do people think would happen to a kid walking around wearing a skirt? What about hi heels? Hey the kid feels comfortable in em then more power to em right? No your putting your child into a situation to be bullied. YOu think this daddy hero is gonna be wondering around in hi heels and a skirt everywhere this kid goes? This guy is a complete idiot. Screaming that it's ok and some somoans do it or whatever isn't gonna help this kid out one bit. Your job as a parent is to protect your children not put them in situations that would cause them problems like this guy is doing. Obviously the parent cares more about making some sort of ridiculous statement with his 5yo then protecting him. Simply pathetic.

Aren't conservatives always pushing religion and going back to a 'better time'? Well, men used to wear elaborate outfits including wigs, heels and makeup.

I say we go back to that

Or, at the very least, skirts and dresses.
