So, if the US government builds a nuclear waste depository in Nevada and that puts a lot of money into the state.....this ignores the non-economic benefit received by other states.
Seems to me this list is pretty screwy in that having federal parks, military bases etc. in a state with a small population and modest economy is a very easy way to have a really screwy ratio.
Not that it's complete bunk or anything....certainly federal taxation laws hammer people in higher cost of living areas.
Pass out the grains of salt.

Do folks here STILL believe that DC deserves a couple of Senators and an at-large Rep?
Crikey!

Do you still believe that American citizens should be denied representation on all issues?
And are you surprised that the DC would rank high on this list? Federal Agencies, the Executive Branch, the Supreme Court, the DOD, State, etc etc are paid for with tax dollars, so including it on this list like a typical state without taking that into consideration is nothing less of ridiculous.

I'm in agreement about the salt grains. Still, I find it funny that of the 'donor states', 12 out of 17 listed are "blue states". Conversely, of the 15 states that receive the most aid (not counting DC), 13 are "Red".
So the states that vote, ostensibly, for the party of small gov't get more money per capita than the social programs guys. Interesting.

«sigh» ...Here we go again.
First, the federal district (D.C.) was set up as a seat of government—not a burgeoning city where 1000's of people were expected to live! The sheer size of D.C. today only underscores how far we've drifted from the Founders' intent.
Second, the fact the FedGov is spending all this money domestically illustrates what a colossal, expensive waste it has become—completely overstepping its Constitutionally limited roles.
For what it's worth, I don't even want a bunch of government largess (pork) thrown around my home state. I'd much prefer to keep that money in my own pocket and keep the FedGov's grubby hands off it to begin with!

Interesting that the Red States are much more likely to be getting more out than they are putting in. So much for their claims for wanting less government. It's like Wallace Stegner said about the rural west - their attitude toward DC is "Leave us alone and give us more money!"

What's ridiculous is considering a city filled with tenured leeches deserving of anything beyond contempt.

Posting this sort of oversimplified information in a "politics" message forum is ALWAYS a TROLL activity.
The feds spend money on the Securities & Exchange Commission mostly in New York state and in Washington, D.C., but I as an investor in publicly-held securities am a beneficiary of that spending. So, for some, EVEN MANY, federal programs, the LOCATION OF DISBURSEMENT versus the LOCATIONS OF BENEFICIARIES don't have any correlation! You need to use your gray matter!
Give it a rest!

This thread was moved from the General US forum. It didn't fit there either.
However, one small matter about distribution I'd like to add is yes, often the red states as they are referred to reap a higher benefit than the blues. Health care is one of those distributions someone might like to check out and explore--by population, not dollars.
