Anyone watching the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night heard the number 4.5 million several times.

The number Castro cites is an accurate description of the growth of private-sector jobs since January 2010, when the long, steep slide in employment finally hit bottom. But while a total of 4.5 million jobs sounds great, it's not the whole picture.

Nonfarm private payrolls hit a post-recession low of 106.8 million that month, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The figure currently stands at 111.3 million as of July.

While that is indeed a gain of 4.5 million, it's only a net gain of 300,000 over the course of the Obama administration to date.

Conclusion:

The figure of 4.5 million jobs is accurate if you look at the most favorable period and category for the administration. But overall, there are still fewer people working now than when Obama took office

Well, you know that the most effective lie has a partial truth in it. Obama and his minions are masters of this along with making statements that his acolytes must re-interpret after the fact to tell us all what he "really" meant vs what he said.

Yeah....for a guy they claim is the smartest man in the room, it's funny he can never make a comment that doesn't need to have his surrogates in the media parse and nuance after he makes it.

Here are some of the things I find funny. First, I'm not disputing your numbers because once you factor in government payroll, it's actually a 360k net decrease so overall. With that being said, why do people expect the country to all of a sudden pull 10 million jobs out of its a#@? From the beginning of the recession in 2007 to the end of the recession, America lost over 4 million jobs. In order to have a true net gain, one must first replenish what was lost or roughly the 4 million jobs or so. For the most part, under this administration that has happened so give credit where credit is due for those of you who still think POTUS has anything to do with job creation. Nothing will ever be fixed over night which is something POTUS has stated numerous times. It's a two term deal esp. coming from the kind of recession we just came out of. Any candidate that will tell you otherwise is lying to your face knowing good and well you're dumb enough to believe it.

Even with POTUS first campaign, I never got the sense of instant gratification from him. It was simple, it's going to take time. This country didn't get into its mess overnight yet people expect overnight results as if he's capable of that. No man or woman is. So as far as can be seen, basically recouping what you lost in a matter of a couple of years, believe it or not is a step in the right direction as I expected that make up to actually take longer than it did. There are still issues to tackle of course taking that next level and creating a net increase which is what the GOP is afraid of as it is currently happening, national debt, infrastructure and the like and the ineptitude of Congress. Plenty of things that need to still be worked on, the biggest problem of which is our Congress and not our Executive Branch as they create the budgets, the White House is obligated to pay for what they approve. Democrat, Republican, doesn't matter with Congress, it's a walking cluster$@#$ and serious changes need to transpire within the legislative branch as it is the branch that is stalling this country and not the Executive branch.

I generally think any POTUS really needs two terms, even Bush Jr (and he was a horrible president). First term, you are always dealing with the fallout of the previous administration. In this case Bush left a mess and the current POTUS had to traverse that mess. Are things perfect? No, but they are better than they were four years ago which shows signs of life and being on the right track. Second term, odds are things will get even better for Americans still but no one can look into the future so...but he has earned the chance for a second term.

In 2009 Obama said that HE WOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

In 2009 Obama said that if he DIDN'T turn around the economy by his 3rd year, he wouldn't deserve re-election.

Are you now contradicting him?

And thus jt800, you shouldn't vote for Obama....actually did you vote for Obama the first time around?

Default You can't win

The record of the Republican party is being exposed this week, and you Pubs are chasing your tails and picking your noses. You are naked and vulnerable as a newborn baby.

When this great man took office, we were headed for a Depression. The job outlook was DISMAL. President Obama took care of that and turned it around. He stopped the bleeding even with worthless Republicans obstructing.

Are you getting the message yet?

Have you gotten off the Bath Salts yet?

A majority a Americans say this country is heading in the wrong direction.

Only 28% think otherwise.....you are in that minority.

PS: How did Republicans "obstruct" Obama's plans when the Democrats controlled Congress for his first two years in office???

Yes, as usual, Democrats are here to rush in to defend the Democratic lies, and blame Republicans..

Why dont you return to school and learn about economic cycles and stop embarassing yourself because the bleeding stopped before Obamas stimulus bill was even funded.
