That is certainly not true in Scandinavia, where the right keep beating the left in terms of educational performance. It is different from country to country.

They have to be because the right appeals to ignorance, racism, superstitution, BIG lies repeated ad nauseum, irrational fear of progress of any kind amd many other truely backwards ideas. That is not to say the leaders of the right are not very smart in their own evil way. They need these foolish followers to beilieve all of their blustering blunder so they can be elected. Once elected they can implement their programme which is 180 degrees out of the interests of their braindead followers.
Most right wing parties around the world are not too into religion. Also, if you talk about limiting immigration in Europe, then the reality is that the left don't even want to talk about the topic, because they get crushed in debates. All statistics show what failure third world immigration has been in Europe.

Quote:
All the extreme right wing movements in Europe that managed to fool the middle class and the working class to support them, crushed their supporters once they had gotten power. They created a two class society. The vast majority of overworked and underpaid plebs and then the 1% who lived and acted like kings.
So, the fault of Europe's problems are the extreme right who has hardly been in power, and not the social democrats who adopted the euro, adopted the policies around europe, and then messed up trying to solve the financial crisis. Imagine if we did what the "extreme" right asked for, to kick Greece out in the euro because they would never be able to pa back.

The thing is...Republicans weren't always anti-intellectual (nor were conservatives-Russell Kirk, William F. Buckley, George Will?)

But there's a significant faction in the Party nowadays that is opposed to rational thought, logic, and learning new ideas, especially when evidence contradicts what they believe.

Sad, but true.

the thing is

the democrats seem to not be able to make up their minds about whether the republicans are the educated rich or the poor stupid.

if this country decides to vote for 4 more years of wars, (how many people know we are sending troops to kosovo?) massive unemployment, unchecked and rewarded illegal immigration, massive government spending and interest payments due, GITMO and drone strikes, theft, corruption, drug/gun running and zero accountability, and no wall street reform or prosecution-then it gets what it deserves.

we will see who is stupid then.

Default Why is it considered "intellectual" to be liberal?

I'm sure the articles you referenced are authoritative.

Why is liberalism perceived as "intellectualism?" It seems to me that man has arrived back, to some previous time in the history of man called the "dark ages."

Apparently, "intellectualism" has been redefined to mean "going along with the group," and never questioning how the group arrives at conclusions about man and nature. Never mind that it has been discovered (and publicized) that the group has colluded, and has been less than honest with evidence (or lack thereof), peer reviewed "studies" (or lack thereof), for the purpose of advancing an agenda to alter the behavior of the rest of society to be more to their liking.

Questioning the authority of, or the basis on which an individual or group arrives at some conclusion is considered to be "unintellectual." We are expected to accept wacky ideas such as "man caused global warming" without question, even if there is no evidence. It is true because the group says so, and they are the scientists, so there!

Belief in the existence of a higher power and intellect than man is also "unintellectual." Man is the center of the universe (again), and God is out. Forget all those crazy ideas that have led us to the founding of the greatest nation in the history of man, those ideas that tell us that man was meant to be free, and that he has certain unalienable rights that come from his creator. That isn't for "intellectuals."

The road back to serfdom is short.

As to your links.....I think you are dealing with serious bias in both of them. I can't take either of them seriously.
Saw the photo of Paul Krugman on the one link and started to laugh. No need to bother with that one!

Exhibit A of said anti-intellectualism. Nobel Laureates are to be laughed at.

Lightbulb Why Are Republicans Anti-Intellectual?

It's simple.

Thinkers don't make good followers.

The Republican party consists of the educated rich exploiting the stupid poor.

If you want to see Obama's and Romney's positions on science-related issues, I highly recommend this article at Scientific American:
Obama and Romney Tackle 14 Top Science Questions: Scientific American

They were asked 14 questions, including climate change, pandemics, energy, water shortages, the internet, space, and the future of innovation and the economy. It makes for some interesting reading.
