It is both remarkable in scope and horrifying to observe from the outside.
Both sides don't play fast and loose with the truth, when it serves their political agenda? Both sides don't conveniently ignore data that doesn't support their views? C'mon now. You seem smarter than that . It's not just a problem with the right wing.

When I think of the type of people who predominate in our (NJ's) Democratic strongholds, the word "intellectuals" doesn't come to mind, lol.

Detroit must be teeming with intellectuals.

Great thread!

All I am seeing in this thread is Republicans not addressing the topic of why they value ignorance over scientific proof.

Let me put it this way. There is a reason that only 6% of scientists are Republicans.

Take a look at the history of Right wing movements anywhere they have occured on earth and they are ALL anti intellectual. They have to be because the right appeals to ignorance, racism, superstitution, BIG lies repeated ad nauseum, irrational fear of progress of any kind amd many other truely backwards ideas. That is not to say the leaders of the right are not very smart in their own evil way. They need these foolish followers to beilieve all of their blustering blunder so they can be elected. Once elected they can implement their programme which is 180 degrees out of the interests of their braindead followers.

All the extreme right wing movements in Europe that managed to fool the middle class and the working class to support them, crushed their supporters once they had gotten power. They created a two class society. The vast majority of overworked and underpaid plebs and then the 1% who lived and acted like kings.

What would make any American think their right is any different? It's supported by the same people, the same $$$$$ and the same ideas. It's just scary for me to see so many Americans that buy the right wing lies, hook worm and sinker.

Or as comedian Stephen Colbert puts it, "Reality has a well-known liberal bias."

This is a good thread, shame it will be locked

My favorite is the people who claim to "know" the Constitution and think case law is a liberal conspiracy.

Only when activist judges misinterpret the constitution

Like either party has an inkling of what the constitution is anymore
