I worked in district court and heard a bunch of DWIs, every defendant I saw always swore they only had "two beers," it is the lamest defense possible because no-one blows a .08+ after two beers, thus the quotation marks.

I myself have seen too many saps get DWIs to drink and drive myself.

Takes 4 beers in an hour to get a 160 lb man legally intoxicated. Weigh 200 and spread the beers out over 1.5 to 2 hours. I don't use my cell phone after drinking and figure it balances out since I do use the cell phone when not drinking.

Just don't let your weight drop. Fortunately beer drinking helps reduce that possibility.

He seems to tangle with authority quite often. Have you seen his thread on permits? For a microwave, according to him (turns out it was a kitchen, but still).

The more threads he creates, the more insight we get into his mind...and it is petrified of women, outraged at any authority, law, or statute that is in conflict with whatever he wants.

They're all one big whine, and the enemy is always 'liberals', 'feminists', 'militants', etc.

Sounds like antisocial personality.

Yup doesn't work for me because I weigh 160>. I am an ectomorph who exercises.

True, true. But men can be from a female perspective, too.

This is a bike-friendly university town and proudly bills itself as such. My transgression? I failed to see and yield to her bicycle, as my view was obscured by parked vehicles. Even worse in her mind, I'm sure, I had a cell phone on my ear - though that had nothing to do with the problem. (California is one of 10 states that bans handheld cell phone use while driving. Old habits are hard to break.) She was many yards away and completely out of danger.

Which brings me to the topic of the militant liberal scold (MLS). MLSers feel as passionately about their constellation of petty issues - bicycling, recycling, anti-smoking, anti-spanking, animal rights, zoning laws, building codes, discrimination, etc. - as devout religious people feel about God. Even more passionately, it seems, judging by their incessant displays of outrage. And they aren't afraid to impose their beliefs on you. Case in point: my city has just taken another step toward banning the use of plastic bags by grocery stores. Once this is passed, non-grocers who use plastic bags can expect lots of mean glares, finger-wagging, and nastygrams from the MLS crowd. If you transgress one of the tenets of their secular religion in public - especially if you fit a certain (ahem) profile - expect a boatload of MLS wrath. And if you own a business, you might as well put it in the budget, because it's going to cost you.

The MLS is typically a person who has replaced faith in God with a thousand petty laws and rules designed to create a liberal utopia on earth. The MLS who would shut down a sidewalk lemonade stand for operating without a health permit typically has no problem with killing innocent children in the womb. The MLS who goes ballistic over some fellow smoking in the park typically has no problem with Jack Kevorkian and assisted suicide. The MLS who calls the cops when you are target shooting on your own property typically has no problem with internet pornography. Etc.

This seems like a paradox, because when MLSers rail against religion and Christian morality, they frame the conflict in terms of freedom. But MLSers on the ground are psychotic control-freaks and micro-managers hell-bent on squeezing the last bit of freedom from the lives of their benighted and backwards neighbors. And yet - is it really a paradox? Or are MLSers merely creating a substitute religion a thousand times more controlling than the faith they are rebelling against?

So let's see here.....you were breaking the law, endangering her life, and are making disparaging remarks about her appearance. It does reflect very badly on one person involved in this encounter, and it's not the cyclist.

Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that my talking on the cell phone actually distracted me to the point of nearly causing an accident. That isn't true at all, but let's go with it. I would have certainly been at fault for being careless, irresponsible, etc.

Going from memory here .... there are approximately 40,000 auto related fatalities every year in the United States. That includes accidents involving pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists. 1/3 of these are alcohol related. They are all accidents.

There are anywhere from 1.1 to 1.3 million surgical abortions every year, not including an estimated 14 million chemical abortions. These are not accidents.

45-50 thousand people are diagnosed with HIV every year in the United States. Engaging in behavior that risks this disease is, for most, a choice.

The hysterical reactions in this thread illustrate my point very well. All the moral wrath the MLS crowd can muster would be thrown at someone who makes a fairly simple, unintentional mistake that could have been made by anyone. The law against talking on a cell phone while driving, which is fairly new and far from universal, is deemed so sacred that commenters here are suggesting that offenders should be shot dead.

Where is their outrage, their righteousness, their hysteria when millions of innocent children are coldly, deliberately, and legally murdered in their mothers' womb? Where's their finger-wagging over the death mills in this country? Where's their outrage over the state actively promoting the deadly lifestyles of homosexuality and heterosexual promiscuity?

The anger they should have at these truly abominable behaviors is being re-directed to their neighbors who fail in some way to make their posh little progressivist world totally safe and risk-free. That is how godlessness leads to tyranny.
