I wonder how christians would feel if a group of atheists picketed their church, handed out anti-religion flyers, begged them not to go in and made them feel in need of 'escorts'?

You have absolutely no basis for that judgement, Roy.
You darned well know that the desire to push same sex marriage is part of their story. I do think there is cause to think like that.

I failed to see anything in the Constitution about that problem being one the federal government should be solving. The 10th Amendment surely does talk about that, when interpreted properly.

You're young and full of passion for what you are doing. I get that. But being truly "pro life" is a LOT more than just public displays of piety. Being pro life is feeding the hungry and taking care of people in need. (And you can pray just fine while cutting up sandwiches and ladling out soup. Get it?)
I would agree with all of that. But, I would add that there are ways to do something constructive to help put an end to abortions.

1. Refuse to vote for a candidate who is not pro-life
2. Volunteer and give to crisis pregnancy centers
3. Educate about the alterrnatives to abortion, especially adoption
4. Be open to adopt a child who needs a home
5. Love and help kids in crisis who are already here ( be a big brother/big sister, a CASA, volunteer at a group home, etc.)
6. Give your children good sex education from the time they are young, and keep communication lines open.
7. Organize a group in your church or civic group to help women facing a crisis pregnancy.
8. And, pray privately ( not for show) for the children in our Country, born and unborn alike.

Do you get it now?
Is it possible that many of those women could afford to keep the baby and raise it? Now watch out when you say no because too many of them are professional women who sure can do that. If so many of that kind can take care of their kids surely those who take the easy out can make it.

My first wife was one of those who had an abortion in the back alley, second floor place in 1960 and she never did fully recover from what she considered murder. She had just started to college and would never have finished if she had to support a baby from a one nighter. I was always glad she did had the abortion because I never would have met her when teaching in the same school, 4 years later. Poor woman is now 70 years old and still not able to accept what she did. I suppose she is the only one that ever turned out like that, though.

Both sides of this argument are twits. No progress has been made by pro-choice people and no progress has been made by pro-life folks...This issue has been at a standstill for decades now...Creepy church ladies beg to save the unborn child - but would not cough up the cash to raise someone bodies child...pro-choice..are meddlesome and convince young would be mothers that their lives will be "ruined" if they bear the child...What life? These are underprivileged young woman who's lives are already ruined before they get pregnant...

It is an unfair choice of words to suggest that religious people consider sex "the devil's dance".....What these do-gooders should be preaching is love...not to have sex with people you do not love....instead they don't care about the potential mother...they only care about what is NOT theirs - which is the child...Both sides should mind their own business and if they really cared about others they would offer material support and not persecute and discourage young mothers...It all gets down to money- Let pro-choice and pro-life set up a fund and let the mothers in need take from that fund...the whole issue smells of righteous cheapness..

This is about money...that's it!

While you have this right it's very limiting and actually harmful for society in general if you make this your litmus test. Most people won't mess with the status quo and those who say they will are lying 99% of the time. A politician, local especially, isn't going to have any say in this matter. EVER. All they can do is make noise about it.

Ah yes, the old "personal responsibility" solution... good luck with that, and let us know how you plan to implement such a thing.

Last time I checked, telling people to exercise "personal responsibility" wasn't a successful method of population control - least of all for those who need it most. So until you can find that magic wand, turning everyone into a responsible human with 0% chance of failure, I think we need to focus more on actual prevention (incl BC availability) and education.

My husband always did that, too, every time the pro-lifers would picket and pray outside the our local Planned Parenthood. Thanks for reminding me of that. I need to go find my checkbook.
