Given the current far-right extremist state of the Republican Party, its tactics of voter suppression, efforts to subjugate government to corporate capitalism by defunding it, including destroying the social safety net, cutting taxes for the rich while increasing military spending, attacking labor unions in order to destroy the political power of the middle and working classes; do you think it likely, or unlikely, that they will succeed in turning the United States into a fascist state? Or do you think they would settle for plutarchy, if they were to seize control of the Senate and Presidency?

They obviously want plutarchy, but would this lead to fascism?

Or you could ask

What is the likelihood that the Democrat Party will succeed in bringing full-on Socialism to the United States

answer to both, not very likely . . .especially since I don't think either party has that goal in mind.

I'd say the likelihood of that happening is comparable to you actually coming to grips with the fact Obama has been a total failure and you deciding not to vote for him again.

Would you rather have full socialism or full fascism?

Given that there are no socialists in the Democratic Party leadership and Obama is a right-wing Democrat, and the fact that there is only one socialist in the Senate, I wouldn't ask that question.

So the GOP goal of plutarchy will not necessarily lead to fascism, you are saying?

They have to first make us a country that no longer has a working government (they're trying, especially since 2000) and then they can blame this on "liberals" in an attempt to install a military dictatorship.

They have been working on this covertly for decades, but it would take something larger than 9/11 for them to have an excuse to usurp the Constitution. I think they would likely be behind an assassination of whomever would currently be in power (I doubt they care if they have to murder one of their own, either) and its likely they might prefer this approach to deflect suspicion.

Read The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism:by Naomi Klein: for more info. on this approach

We don't need the GOP to bring fascism to America, the Democrats are doing a fine job of that right now. Look at Obama's bailouts, his support of the "Patriot" Act, Presidential kill lists, the NDAA, warrantless wiretapping, etc. Both parties are offering policies that are fascist.
