(No, I AM NOT implying this has anything to do with Obama!)

Yup, OP gave those dogs bones....

Only a Really Stupid person would blame Obama , and they will and they did.

As to the OP, accidents happen. Did you plan to ban motorcycles or ban Obama from campaigning????

Burdell's comment is unfortunately very right. Cage drivers do not even see most other cages and rarely see motorcycles. I have considered carrying a nightstick to wake some of the bozos up or at least get their eyes out of the text screen.

My condolences to the officer and his family.

My youngest son just started riding a motorcycle. I was pretty worried for a while..He is skillful and has great reflex..I don't worry about him anymore...Riding a bike puts you in a vulnerable position...It is not the bike rider that will cause an accident...It is when some one who is blind to a bike that will kill you- That is the advice I give my kid..watch out for the idiots.

As for this bike cop...concentration is a life saving must...I am sure that there was a certain amount of frantic and desperate manuvering done..because of the "importance" of the event- sounds like he was concentrating too much on the wrong thing. It is only the President you are escorting...not GOD....They should relax and not try so hard to please..This poor cop let down his guard and lost his life...The job of the motorcycle cop is to escort...The job of the Secret Service is to protect....sounds like the cop may have forgotten what his job was.

WHAT? That's their JOB! If it was Romney you would NOT be posting that! If they didn't try hard Republicans would dump all over them, call them """those lazy UNION slobs!""

"""This poor cop let down his guard and lost his life...The job of the motorcycle cop is to escort """

...and protect and defend like any other cop!

"""...The job of the Secret Service is to protect""""

What has that got to do with anything???

"""....sounds like the cop may have forgotten what his job was.
Republicans: Hate cops/flip flop/ feel sorry for cops who die in OBAMA'S service, don't care if it was Romney.

Has Romney dismissed all motorcycle escort cops?????? Has he?????

Before you start bagging on "cage drivers", around here most of the motorcycle accidents seem to be user error.

Like a few weeks back a whole pack of bikers were out and about and one of them shot the gap between me and another driver coming within a few feet of each of us at 75mph. (Oh, btw the fast last was empty so it wasn't like we were gumming things up. )

I do 100% agree with you about the texters, this is a growing problem and most of the time I see some idiot swerving etc etc. it's that.

If you are a skilled rider, not screwing around then I agree with you. However, the clear majority of motorcycle rider deaths are their own fault.

http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/810834.pdf

44% of the fatalities involved just the motorcyclist. 56% involved another vehicle.

In the crashes involving another vehicle:

-2.5x more likely that the motorcyclist had been drinking vs. the vehicle driver.
-24% of the bikers didn't have a valid license vs. 8% for the other vehicle.
-27% of bikers speeding vs. 4% vehicles.
