Ah, common statement from a Republitard, drinking form the kool-aid much? Blame it on the teachers and then wonder why education keeps getting worse and worse as less and less good teachers want to teach any more.
Actually, good teachers don't want to teach anymore because they see crappy teachers continue on the job, thanks to the inability of districts to get rid of bad teachers, ALL THANKS TO THE UNIONS.
The strike is about over, hasn't and never had much to do with pay.
It's almost worse than pay -- the teachers do not want to be held accountable for their poor job performance. Kids failing on stardardized exams isn't something they want to be responsible for in any way.
A 16% increase in salaries was being applied to the teacher's pay. It wasn't good enough for them.
They want 30%. It's only fair you know.
And they don't want to be judged on how kids perform on the state tests.
Are they special ? Because Obama's RTT does just that...evaluate teachers based on student performance. And anyone who got a waiver for NCLB has to go with RTT and do just that. Illinois did put in for a waiver but wanted to evaluate teachers based on socio-economic items like poverty and the WH denied their application and gave them a one year freeze.
When RTT first got announced the Dems were all for it. Now that they have to implement it though it becomes another story.
