George Bush did some really great things - things that I agreed with:

1) He was very measured after 9/11. People were baying for blood and his immediate reaction was very careful without being weak. Tough needle to thread, but he did it.

2) His policy on Eastern Europe. He was beloved by Eastern Europe - The Missile Defence System, his strengthening of alliances. Things like the invasion of a US ally(Georgia), or the threatening of Ukraine by Russia over the gas pipelines didn't happen under him because he had a brilliant policy on Eastern Europe.

But he did do some bad things:

1) Iraq - There were no WMDs. Israel dealt with the nuclear capabilities several years prior to this, the Anthrax strains he had used were provided by the US and items like chlorine gas can be made with the things you find in any grocery store. Every country could theoretically have that. Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks on the US, or real links to Al Qaeda because Saddam Hussein was far more secular than other leaders. He also seemed to think that Iraq should be dealt with in the same way that Northern Ireland was - As if Iraq was less complex than an area that sparked off decades of attacks.

2) The auto bailouts - If an industry is failing because of its own inability to innovate, giving them money delays the inevitable. They should have been allowed to fail so that other, better auto manufacturers could fill up the hole left by them.

So, in conclusion: George W. Bush had many great qualities and did a great job in many areas.

Unfortunately, all that goodwill was erased by his horrendous Iraq blunder.
