Instead of dispatching the Chief of staff to see that a hole Jones, wouldn't it better to talk to the media to stop covering aholes like Jones and Westboro Baptist group. Without media attention these fools would just wither away.
Jones and Westboro have the freedom of speech to say whatever they want. It just doesn't need to be covered and exploited by the media.
The media didn't translate the movie into Arabic, or post the translated version on youtube two days before 9/11.
Wow, oh wow. That is not the function of the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, matter of fact it is highly contrary to how the military is supposed to operate. Miltary are not supposed to intimidate US citizems, and that is what this could easily be construed as. Wonder whose idea that was? Military, including the highest military officer of the land, follow orders. This is so, so wrong.
Had Obama been alive during the 60s....do you think he would have dispatched his chief of staff to beg Martin Luther King to quit pizzing off the Kluckers? If not, why should the hypocritical jackass attempt to suppress an American citizen's freedom of speach now? There are times when people of courage and integrity need to stand up and denounce evil, rather it is institutional racism or radical Islam.

If you want to stop this lunatic from causing trouble - then stop the media from covering him. If you start telling people they can't say something, then you are infringing on sacred rights. Of course, if they did that - then freedom of the press comes into play. Here is a thought - just abide by the constitution - whether you like it or not. If you want to make the argument that speaking ill of Islam is like yelling fire in a theater - then have the balls to come right out and say so.

The idea that media coverage is the problem has some merit, but in light of the internet, which is not controlled by the media, and allows lunatics a forum to put forth their lunatic, offensive ideas, it is appropriate to ask the lunatics to tone it down.
We have freedom of speech. We are adults. Adults should be able to exercise their freedom in a responsible fashion.
And how do you know what they think? Because they smile at you and say nice things?
All we can go by is the stated pronouncements of Islam which presumably as Muslims they support.
Its unfortunate that people take a brush and paint everyone the same based on what is said by some. My question to the poster was he referring to ALL Muslims. Now I will ask you, based on your post, does that apply to ALL Muslims in the world?
I don't know how ALL Muslims think, but apparently some people seem to think they do. Are you presuming, or more like ASSuming that ALL Muslims practice the same?
Are you of the opinion that EVERY Muslim who smiles and say nice things is a terrorist/fundamentalist/radical?? That they walk around each day with their heart filled with hate and when they are talking to you they are thinking about plucking your eyes out, cutting your tongue off, and then cutting you into pieces, but to hide that hatred they smile at you and say nice things? That they are waiting for you to walk away so they can put a knife in your back or have a good laugh because they fooled you? Is that how you see ALL Muslims-their hearts filled with hate?

Nor are they suppose to kill American citizens, unless ordered to, which has been done.

I think you're behind a beat on this one. Mainstream media is not covering them all that much anymore. For example, Terry Jones' group was in my town last summer protesting at a military funeral and not one bit of footage of his group was on local or national TV. A solemn and respectful counter group that kept Jones' group out of the view the grieving family got a little press but that was as close as Jones got. Terry Jones presents a clear and present danger to our troops and all Americans overseas. Why shouldn't someone like the Chief of Staff try to make him understand that? There is freedom speech but even with freedom of speech you can't yell "fire!" in a crowded theater without being charged for inciting a riot. That's what the film undeniably did and Jones is helping to promote it.
