Imams, ayatollas, whatever they call Islamic religious leaders...what are they saying and doing about the violence and slaughter being done over a video clip? Are they urging peace and restraint? Pointing out the stupidity of protesting a movie made by an Egyptian? Trying to calm things down before more lives are foolishly lost? As religious men, and leaders of the religion of peace, I would suppose that to be true, but I have not seen any news coverage.

I think they are saying "Go forth and protest".

People are leaving mosques after Friday prayer and going right to Embassies.
If their own governments are promoting protests you think the Imams are promoting not to protest ?

In Sudan they told the people to also protest Germany for giving that cartoon guy an award in 2010.
They obliged by storming the German Embassy and setting it on fire.

Here's an example to back up my viewpoint:

Anti-Islam film protests Live Blog - Al Jazeera Blogs
Hundreds of Salafists burned US flags in Morocco after Friday prayers at a mosque in a poor neighbourhood of Sale, twin town to the Moroccan capital Rabat.

You will NEVER hear from those Muslim leaders that denounce and abhor such violence because it doesn't increase TV ratings. The Aga Khan, who is a respected leader of the Nizari Ismaili Shi'a Muslim community has repeatedly denounced the Taliban and Islamic extremism:

Of course, I doubt anyone would care
