We don't actually get much of our oil from the middle east, its mostly from Canada, Mexico, and Venezuela.

The problem with oil is that there is so much of it in the middle east, so they set the market price.

We have to have an alternative energy source, that isn't petroleum, to switch to. We have one, its called natural gas.

But we could have started that years ago, No was the answer from YOU people, just drill more is your answer when there isn't enough oil to drill.
I do not recall anyone being against drilling for natural gas but I do understand the negative reaction to an argument of "you people".

5 years ago I remember talking about energy independence. Coal and oil were the only things offered by Republicans. When you bring up natural gas "well yeah, but cars don't run on that" was the usual answer.

Oh how little we understand.

That would be like a "cure for cancer"- stop breathing air. Anoxia will kill the cancer (and the patient).

Why not drill in ANWAR, the Gulf, offshore in California, develop oil shale in the west, and stop the war on coal??????

Answer- Liberals have opposed all of these measures, which would insure US energy independence.

I don't think that would have stopped anyone from pursuing natural gas. Cars don't run on coal either so I can only assume that the argument was a bit more complicated than you are making it out to be.

I'm hoping these people are just going through a phase in their social evolution and will at some point sort out their discontent hopefully sooner than later.
Well, we nailed bin Laden, and a few other germs, and just maybe it would be a good idea to publicly list some pf the most vicious fanatics, the ones who have shed innocent blood and are clearly irreconcilable, then work on (and make known) our batting average in sending them to their 100 virgins.

I don't want to sound like I'm spoiling for a fight, but when a sworn enemy has publicly advertised their goal of destroying us (and Israel, and all of Western progress), then I think the term "extermination" is not too strong to use when speaking of such a den of vipers.

Reportedly, there is a mosque in London where the most virulent anti-Western rhetoric is spewed on a weekly basis; occasionally delivering a severed head of a few of the ugliest and most bloodthirsty among their "heroes" as a "suprise" just might get a message across.

In countries with millions of inhabitants having a few thousand on the streets can seem like a lot but the overall numbers of these malcontents represent just a tiny fraction of the actual population..
Also fighting these main agitators is tough as they dont wear uniforms and they like to hide behind women and children.

Yeah that really makes good sense hotair.....
You would make a good point except for the fact that I did not say America should stop buying their oil. I said stop buying their oil. IF the western countries stopped buying their oil that would be a huge hit.

Simply impractical at the moment. When the US develops enough sources of alternative energy then perhaps the US can slowly wean off the usage of oil that comes from the Middle East.

Do you think big oil is going to let that happen?
