Gotta wonder about the accuracy of whomever wrote this.. The alarm bells went off when I read this:

Quote:
The carriers are supported by at least 12 battleships, including ballistic missile cruisers, frigates, destroyers and assault ships carrying thousand of US Marines and special forces.
There are no active duty battleships anywhere on the planet Earth, the last one was the USS Missouri, BB 63.

Also very interesting is not a single mention of allied fast attack nuclear nor SSBN submarines in or anywhere around the gulf....

Hmmmmm

The British (and pretty much everyone else in the world) refer to any ship of war as a battleship. Only the US makes a classificational distinction between the various ships of war.

That's funny, countries that USED to have BB's include:

Germany, Italy, Russia, Britain, Japan....

So when did all these countries change their definition of battleship to include any ship (brown or blue water navy) to carry a weapon?

Well, pack your bags and have at it!

Watcha my lips, There are no active duty battleships anywhere on the planet Earth....

They should not have been mentioned AT ALL....

Well, I have to take that back, if one does not consider the age of the ship there still is one active duty BB in the world.....

HMS Victory

And I kinda doubt the Second Sea Lord will take her into action in the Gulf.....

Picky picky. To satisfy you the writer should have said war ships. But I understand the sentence that the writer was referring to the list of the war ships that would go into battle .
