You do know Obama's energy secretary wants us to have 8 dollar a gallon gas.. of course when questioned on it,, he had to retract his statement. You know bad for Obama and getting reelected they will tell us anything and do the opposite.

“Chu, his Energy secretary, said in 2008 he wanted gasoline prices to get to the European level, which is $9 or $10 a gallon,” [LEFT]

No, it hasn't "destroyed the country". And it won't. It's not a great thing that it has gone up, but no need to be a drama queen about it. There are many more urgent things to worry about.

Just plain ignorant. What is the Preisdent supposed to do? Invade Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, etc etc? We already embarrassed ourselves with the Food-for-Oil program and several corporations with ties to the Carlyle Group, Dick Cheney, and or former President Bush have gotten HUGE oil drilling contracts in Iraq.

Is this what you want your President to do? Do you realize majority of our oil doesn't even come from the Middle East?

BTW, before you even accuse me of being a liberal. I am not, I'm a conservative and not a wannabe like the rest of the GOPers out there.

You also realize that if the economy were substantially stronger, the gas prices would probably be closer to $6 a gallon?
Exactly!

Don't forget, it was Bush's fault every time it went up. Lining the pockets of his buddies in Saudi Arabia and all that. See? Dems did it too.

Oops. Almost forgot just sayin'
It's amazing how people quickly forget that its the REPUBLICANS who have been in bed with the Saudi royals throughout history. Prince Banadar and other Saudis used to be regulars at the White House until President Obama was elected.

It's gone down 6 cents per gallon here in southern NH to $3.89.

At best it can only be "part" free market, because so many oil producing countries have nationalized, i.e., state run, oil production companies. Plus, production and transportation are subject to various political pressures - such as sanctions against various countries, like Iran - as well as guarantee of access by implicit threat of military intervention. As someone else said as well, if demand was higher so would the price.

Uh, why on earth? So milk can be $20 a gallon? Or bread 10 bucks a loaf? You know, those dietary staples everyone including the poor have to buy. Everything you'll ever see in 99.999% of stores gets there on trucks that use fossil fuels. The higher the gas and/or diesel is, the more everything will cost. So much for caring about the working man.
And what's the obsession with always wanting to be like the rest of the world?

Nobody's forgot anything. I just wonder what the Obamaites are using as an explanation for the current outrageous prices. Oh it's still Bush's fault 4 years into Obama's residency.

True. U.S. gasoline prices are much cheaper than they are in other developed countries. And gas prices much higher than $5-$6 a gallon in current dollars would have significant impact on basic commerce, so that the cost of living would rise in the U.S. disproportionately compared to those other countries that currently have higher fuel prices.

This highlights our dependence on cheap fuel and the transportation problems we have as a country.
