Geez, it's just a "cause." No one said that hungry people are being neglected. In fact, there's probably at least three posts a day railing against "assistance" to poor people, which would include feeding the hungry. How is focusing on people who eat too much "VERY OBAMA". WTH???
Obesity is a huge health epidemic in the country and it affects all income levels with effects that cost society tons of money, as well as costing the obese people and their families pure misery.
And all the money in the world cannot force them to stop eating what they are eating.

I agree with you. Much of it is education and "learning" about better ways of eating or just being mindful of what is a proper weight and what is not.
I think that's where "starting with the kids" is a good tactic.
Most of my family is overweight; however, when I was about 8 years old, my parents both decided to change their eating habits and they went on Weight Watchers. This is back in thd 70s. And while I, myself, was not on Weight Watchers, I saw them change the things they cooked for me, I watched them measuring out their portions, and I watched them incorporate many different foods into their diets that we didn't usually eat. My parents are now in their late 60s/early 70s, still maintaining their weight, adn still relying on those early principles of better food/reasonable portions. I can't say enough how much that impacted me when I watched it going on around me as a child. It really stuck.
While I do think that we learn best from our families and peers, many of these kids won't ever get that education at home. I don't see anything wrong with campaigns to promote that message in ways that reach children. Somewhere along the line, for somebody, it's going stick. At least they will KNOW they have other options.

But to think a school can do the same as one's parents ? Most kids hate school.
And the amount of good food that is thrown out daily is disheartening.
It's your parents and your home life that make you.
The First Lady is a meaningless figure. She's a nobody. Always has been. Always will be. She just happens to have a coat tail to ride and a megaphone to speak with. She deserves no additional respect from anyone anywhere for any reason.
Let's see, bachelor's from Princeton, law degree from Harvard. Yup that is exactly the kind of person that a RWNJ would have no respect for.

That is horrible logic. Ted Kaczynski aka, the Uni-Bomber and Jeff Skilling the former head of Enron both went to Harvard. I'm somehow supposed to blindly respect them because of the physical location where they were educated? Silly at best.

Yes, it is but I don't see why we need to knock the first lady for championing this cause (and I know that you weren't doing the bashing). We could say the same about Laura Bush's "reading" cause. If books aren't presented in the home, at an early age, and parents don't place importance on reading, the schools don't have a hope in hell in encouraging reading or literacy. But somehow that cause is okay.
Well it's like I said way back in the thread....people don't really care they just like bashing the Obamas and will use anything they can to "build a case against them". Some of the comments here are so immature and ignorant it's hard to continue reading them.
There is nothing wrong with the platform, she isn't "telling you what to do", she is reinforcing what everyone already knows they are supposed to be doing but don't seem to be doing it. It's what YOU MOM would tell you, even if she was overweight, even if you are overweight. You know how to get thin, eat healthy and exercise, but you are still fat. THAT is why it's important to keep putting the info out there. It's always your choice, Michelle isn't preaching and she isn't forcing and she isn't making rules or thinking you are stupid. YOU are. She is doing fine and probably has struggled with her own body image and weight over the years, you know...like a normal human being. But you don't like her for your own personal and probably stupid reason. OK, we get it.

Not really. Current crisis is in many ways unprecedented. There is whole new scale we are dealing now. Throwing out there a substitute cause is mindbogling.

So you believe, then, that the First Lady should have taken up the cause of "the economy?" When has a First Lady ever taken up a cause that is meant to be dealt with by Congress? OK, so maybe Hillary did.

Which one of those were First Ladies?
