When you have two people that are qualified in exactly the same way and a male is paid higher than the female, that should not be legal.
I agree that gender and race should not come into consideration when it comes to compensation, promotions, getting a job, etc. I am however leery of the government dictating hiring practices to private employers. Government and government contract work is a completely different animal however. It's not good business to discriminate against anyone so the market will punish those who offend.

Getting off my philosophical soapbox however do we really need a new law? There are already equal pay laws on the books correct? Why not just ensure those are enforced instead of creating a new law?

The bill that was passed reset the Statue of Limitations to each paycheck received, instead of a total of 180 days from first payment.

There was a need as women would find out about pay discrepancies after the 180 days, and not be able to do anything about it.

Basic economics, folks. Take a course someday.
That could not be any farther from the truth.

Seeing as how Asian men make more money than white men, why isn't it the car on Asian men?.. Indeed, within every race, men make more on average, so why isn't it the war on men?

Hmm...interesting. I'll have to do more research on this.

Those factors would change the value of the work. The point of equal pay for equal work already factors in those differences, meaning that anyone who does a dishwashing job should get paid the same and anyone who becomes a lawyer should get paid the same.
