In 1988, a veto-proof Democrat Congress passed the WARN act, which required large employers to notify workers facing potential layoffs, 60 days before such layoffs were expected to take place. It became law without President Reagan's signature.

Now, with sequestration (automatic cuts across the board in govt spending, including in Defense) scheduled to take place on Jan. 1, 2013, employers such as large defense contractors are required to send out notices to all employees facing layoffs. Federal law allows no exceptions or extensions for employers covered by the WARN Act.

This means those companies must send out thousands of layoff warning notices, a few days before the November elections, required by Federal law. Many states also have state laws similar to the Federal WARN Act, requiring such advance notices of layoffs.

And so the White House, whose Constitutional duty is to make sure all Federal laws are obeyed, is begging those contractors to violate both Federal and State law. And they are even offering bribes, paying the companies' legal expenses if they will challenge the (until-today-clear) Federal laws in court and so delay sending the notices until after the elections.

Is there any corruption or violation the Obamanites won't commit to try to retain power, while refusing to do the job the people elected them to do?

Is it November yet?

Obama administration tells contractors again: Don’t issue layoff notices

by Jeremy Herb - 09/28/12 07:25 PM ET

The Obama administration issued new guidance intended for defense contractors Friday afternoon, reiterating the administration’s position that the companies should not be issuing layoff notices over sequestration.

Obama administration tells contractors again: Don

Quote:
The Labor Department issued guidance in July saying it would be “inappropriate” for contractors to issue notices of potential layoffs tied to sequestration cuts. But a few contractors, most notably Lockheed Martin, said they still were considering whether to issue the notices — which would be sent out just days before the November election.

But the Friday guidance from the Office of Management and Budget raised the stakes in the dispute, telling contractors that they would be compensated for legal costs if layoffs occur due to contract cancellations under sequestration — but only if the contractors follow the Labor guidance.

The guidance said that if plant closings or mass layoffs occur under sequestration, then “employee compensation costs for [Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification] WARN act liability as determined by a court” would be paid for covered by the contracting federal agency.
AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE

This is a political move on behalf of the Administration to assist in re-election of the Resident. And it is their intention that the taxpayers foot that bill.

The administration is throwing workers under the bus for their campaign.

Not give workers 60 day notice that they will lose their jobs so it doesn't hit the press.
The administration doesn't give a damn about the workers; they just don't want the bad news to hit the press before elections.

Look closer. The workers will be fine: they'll sue for damages under the WARN act, the companies will pay them, and our tax dollars will go to reimburse the companies. Obama is buying votes with our tax dollars--AGAIN!

Isn't violating the WARN Act at least a misdemeanor?

Doesn't the constitution allow for impeachment for "high crimes and misdemeanors"?

You must have been reading my mind. Not only shouldn't this man be re-elected, he should be impeached.

Unfortunately - an impeachment would become a political exercise instead of the solemn, impartial procedure it is meant to be - and given the current composition of the Senate - he would never be removed - even if he were successfully impeached.

Even though by law, they are supposed to give a certain amount of time. But of course, law and Obama dont belong in the same sentence unless you use "break" or "circumvent". Because after all, saving Baracks jobs is the most important thing....
He is basically allowing them a out when they aly off without notice. Its like a police officer directing you to make a illegal movement ;it is a defense to prosecution under law that you relied on a authority resonably.

Barack Obama is absolutely worthless.
Hate to tell you this, but AeroGuyDC;

you have a long wait. Too many liberals are not going to see because they don't want too, you have to be stupid, naive, or ignorant, or just plain turn your head the other way.

He is a very good liar, i tell you that, and liars are good at covering up their lies with others. As in our 4 dead Americans, and the Movie freaking excuse those damn liars. When they infact knew 24 hrs after the deaths the real story, hate liars with a passion, and don't care who they are.

How can people condone their lies when 4 dead americans are dead. And no protection for Steven's when he was worried from days before about his own safety.

This administation is a lying sack of sh--! and the lies are disgusting.
