I've been slowly renovating a new home (new to me) for the last three years because I enjoy it,the incentive is knowing the job was done right and getting exactly what I want. It's not paying the bills is it? Matter of fact at the pace I'm going if I was doing this for a living I'd go broke.
I can do this because have income from other work which is required to pay my bills and provide me funding for the renovation.

Money is a requirement to keep people working, only. Motivation on the job comes from a sense of accomplishment and identity with the product, sharing in the creative process.
