Given that a lot of our blue collar working men, typically hardworking guys who take pride in building things, are in the tank with the housing crash and aftermath, the infrastructure-oriented job bills seem like a great way to get them back doing things that our society needs. High speed rail, solar retrofits, bridge and road repair and updating would all get these guys back to work, and they would be an investment in the future. The GOP is saying no way in hell.

These same guys were all for the Iraq War, and the tax cut passed as the war was launched. The wars and tax cuts exploded the deficit and produced absolutely nothing to make America stronger five years from now. But for the GOP, deficits for wars or military build ups (Reagan) are entirely acceptable.

What is the logic here?

Why are unfunded wars good policy, but high speed rail and green energy are pork barrel debacles?

Maybe because of articles like these?

What a colossal, predestined failure. The line will lose money - big money - right from the get-go and is already planning to offer abysmal service.

The Repubs make their stock portfolios richer, as well as their cronies in the military industrial complex, FOX News convinces the sheep watching that the military makes 'Murika safe with its wars that secure natural resources in other peoples countries, and that anything that actually does improve this country is "socialism" and "redistribution of wealth".

Sheep respond accordingly. Rinse, repeat.

Great question! The GOP expects some company to build it for profit, while they defend the country and expand the empire.

Because it is better to nation-build other countries like Afghanistan and Iraq than it is to nation-build our country.

That is what makes money to those in power, unfortunately.

Well, wars are always good business ventures, have an entire nation of brainwashed, ignorant people believing that the US is fighting these wars for some "good" cause- while people like Donald Rumnsfeld profits off all the young soldiers who died in Afghanistan and Iraq for nothing.

Obviously, it is all very logical: Iraq- weapons of mass destruction-where are the weapons of mass destruction? No one knows. I guess, they will never find them because they simply don't exist- but we need to start a war though.

Now, in Afghanistan, we went there because of 9/11- Obviously, the Taliban and the hijackers must have been connected-after all, they are all Muslims-therefore we do not have any options but to start a war- I see now, it all makes perfect sense!
