In an unaired bit of his recent 60 Minutes interview, President Obama continued to defend his at-this-point-entirely-indefensible policies aimed at forcibly remaking America’s economy into the green utopia of environmentalists’ most romantical visions.

VIDEO

Earth to President Obama: Those wind-energy jobs in Iowa you’re so dearly fond of touting, are imaginary. Yes, there certainly are people who currently hold employment in the wind-energy industry in this country, but the mere existence of jobs in no way means that these are productive, profitable jobs that contribute to private-sector economic growth. The jobs he’s referring to are, in fact, a drain on our economy: The federal government subsidizes the heck out of the wind industry, which means that all of these supposedly fabulous jobs come at the opportunity cost of all those dollars we’re pouring into the industry being spent productively elsewhere.

Notice how the wind industry is so wildly desperate to keep the wind production tax credit around? That would be because they know that their businesses cannot survive without it — a.k.a., wind energy is not capable of standing up to the test of free-market competition. A.k.a., imaginary. Imaginary jobs do not spur growth, and quixotically bankrupting ourselves with public “investments” in the quest to fulfill our own green prophecies is certainly not going to help us compete in the global economic arena.

Don`t fool yourself into thinking that the wind industry is the only energy business to get govt. goodies. The gas drillers have been on the dole for decades.

I'm not fooled by that at all.

But the DIFFERENCE is that Natural Gas is a PROVEN commodity. They know exactly how much it will cost to extract the gas, how much it sells for, and how much use it will get.

In some places like Nevada, Liberals have passed laws that say that electric companies MUST buy a certain amount of "renewable" energy even though the price is higher than their normal source and that forces electric customers to pay an inflated price for their electricity just to make the Liberals happy.

Yeah, thinking we can improve our wealth and prosperity by paying double for electricity is right on a par with believing that we can do better by over-paying for used cars in order to crush them, or taking money from some of us so we can bribe others to buy a home, or thinking that we could easily get back to prosperity if only we are willing to waste enough money. It all fits the Barack Obama Plan.

To get off oil or significantly reduce our use of oil, we could do that by moving toward solar, wind, and nuclear power. If we powered our vehicles with electricity, we could eventually become energy independent.

Electric cars only transfer the source of the pollution someplace else and on a more massive scale. If everyone drove an electric car today and had to recharge them tonight, we'd have a black-out. You'd better be prepared and build LOADS of new power plants first.

But Liberals don't want nuclear waste in their backyards either. Heck, Ted Kennedy fought to stop a wind powered generator in his line of view!

You also must realize that we use oil to make many things other than gasoline. Look at all the plastic you use every day for example. And even electric cars need greased.

Great point. However, if we simply continue to allow people to select the most cost-effective choices for energy, we'll always have what makes the most sense. When solar or wind or anything else gains compelling economics, it will be unstoppable. As long as it remains uneconomic, it will be unsupportable.

Obama's energy plan is to support the unsupportable, at immense cost in jobs, income, wealth and prosperity.

Obama's green jobs and energy policy is precisely why this economy is stagnant and no end in sight. Add in the spectre of the healthcare fiasco. All his doing mind you. All shoved down the throats of the citizens while democrats had control of both chambers. What is their defense to this. Bush's fault.

If the electricity is coming from solar, wind, geothermal, and nuclear it is way cleaner for the planet. Try and learn something for yourself rather than spewing tired old talking points.
