It actually has a lot to do with a lot of things, and that's why people freak out about it every time it's brought up.

Morally straight is entirely subjective. I don't consider the Boy Scouts a moral organization. Their opinion on morality doesn't trump mine.

I agree 100%, and think they have a VERY distorted perception of morality... IMO it's far more immoral to hate people for something they cannot change, and to indoctrinate youth into believing their twisted definitions. They are free to do as they please, but I wish they'd at least be honest instead of using the Bible to justify their personal opinions.

In this instance the BSA is like a church, some are accepting and other not so much. They have chosen the 'not so much' path but I predict, with 100% certainty, they are going to meekly give up on this in the coming years.

Because it's a Conservative "Christian" organization. They have extremist views based on Biblical literalism and outdated tradition.

Because he started when he was very young and probably didn't have any clue he was gay at the time he joined.
