Almost-Eagle Scout denied award because he is gay - U.S. News

The Boy Scouts are a private organization and can do what they want-- even though I find this type of behavior reprehensible, it is their right to do so.

However, any type of governmental support-- whether direct financial, or in-kind support like providing free meeting places in public schools, needs to be pulled in response to such behavior. This is overt discrimination and this organization has no place being supported by tax dollars.

No private organization should get taxpayer dollars.

I don't know why the Boy Scouts are holding out on this....they have to know there is, has been, and always will be a large percentage of gay members. Not "officially" accepting them is kind of like closing your eyes and not "offically" accepting that the sky is blue.

Words can't even describe how unfair it is for that kid to not be honored for his accomplishments, and all because of sexual orientation. Seriously, who gives a s*** what his sexual orientation is? What the hell does sexual orientation have to do with anything anyways. Smh

The National Office may be in Texas, but the power and the money are in Salt Lake City. The Mormon Church sponsors 26,000 troops across the country, which is by far the largest of any organization, religious or not. So don't look for this to change until the LDS either pulls support.

I personally loved Scouts, and am proud of earning the rank of Eagle. But I have serious reservations about enrolling my own son because of these ever more frequent acts of discrimination.

I'm not fan of the Boy Scouts position here either. I'm good with pulling funding in the same bill that defunds the CBC.

It is within the BSA's right to refuse rank advancement.

Which makes this a non-issue.

If we could just agree that private organizations like the Scouts should not use public facilities or recieve public funds then the controversary would go away.

Perhaps there needs to be an alternative to the boy scouts set up by homosexuals. Think of the badges to be earned!

The sky really isn't blue - our eyes just perceive it to be blue.
