Here's some actual FACTS:

In August 2011, the Obama administration issued new federal fuel economy rules that set an average fuel efficiency goal of 54.5 miles per gallon for the 2025 model year.

That’s nearly twice the 27.6 miles per gallon standard for 2011, for cars and for trucks.

So far, so good.

But we paused at Obama’s claim that his administration took action "after 30 years of inaction."

Mileage standards in the United States have been in place since the 1970s Arab oil embargo.

Back then, Congress passed the Energy Policy Conservation Act of 1975, which boosted the fuel economy of cars and light trucks. "Corporate average fuel economy," or CAFE, standards reached 27.5 miles per gallon in 1985 — then hovered there.

Obama’s speech might have left you thinking nothing else happened until his administration took charge.

But in 2007, Bush signed the Energy Independence and Securities Act, which required "substantial, continuing increases in fuel economy standards," according to a helpful history lesson at auto information site Edmunds.com.

Bush noted at his signing ceremony that the law marked the first statutory increase in fuel economy standards since they were enacted — something he had asked for.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., then speaker of the House, remarked on the historic nature of the bipartisan legislation, writing that its auto efficiency reforms were "the first in more than 30 years."

And that law laid the groundwork for Obama’s rule changes.

"A lot of what Obama's doing is really extending what President Bush started," Jeremy Anwyl, vice chairman for Edmunds.com, told PolitiFact in January.

That’s not what Obama’s sweeping oversimplification suggested.
OK - so i'll play the game Republicans do with Clinton in the 90s....

Wouldn't have happened without the Democrat controlled Congress!!!!!!

Whatever....the FACT is that you claimed that Obama signed new CAFE Standards which were the first in 2.5 decades.

That's simply NOT TRUE.

THIS thread is about the HYPOCRISY of the Left not caring about high gas prices today when they screamed bloody murder and claimed Bush was in bed with the oil companies back then.
Well, Hillary has stopped screaming about "taking those profits". Anybody remember that?

Since you are newer to the forum, I can tell you that around here the message was that Bush and his oil buddies were gouging us. Hillary has her famous "take those profits" comments from the 2008 primaries and of course you probably recall the congressional hearings about oil company profits?

The right wing talking points now in 2012 are generally either:
a) Obama isn't letting us drill and develop US energy here (see XL topic too) which is mostly politicking
b) US spending is making oil and everything else higher, which is an accurate statement but that's the result of decades of US behavior and not just 4 years of Obama who is picking up the bar tab from Bush II, Clinton and their predecessors....while contributing to it as well.

both sides are even on that game. They both act like they will do something about gas prices. Both parties bald face lie. I would say that a slight win here goes to Bush though on the scale, since any conflict action will cause a spike. . .but only a slight (since he started it). The problem is the spike never retreated due to the growing asian economies. . .oh well
Crude oil price in 2009 $51 a barrel. Today's crude oil price: hovering around $100 a barrel.

A president does not dictate the price of crude oil.
The price is all about supply and demand and oil speculators.
