...Sorry, I guess it went over your head.

You said you could live just fine without police - so go live somewhere that doesn't have cops.

I re-learned that lesson the harder way at Easter 1999 when my in laws were stabbed to death and the Fire Dept beat Swat by 2.5 hours! SWAT musta been having a hard time getting the armored car running or maybe they forgot what they did with the bullets or something...... I will bank on the Fire Dept from now on. They will come.

Me, I just carry a gun because a Fire Man is too heavy..... The hell with the cops.

Boy, that sounds like a scandalous situation that would make it into the news! I'd be interested to read more about this event.

This is not a hate cops thread. They have value, but hiring more police officers to give out more traffic tickets seems like a waste of money.

Most of the officers are used for traffic stops. Do we really need that many cops to give out tickets. Where I live we have cops every five miles doing seatbelt patrol. Seriously, that is what we are paying for seatbelt patrol.

I understand DUI checkpoints, but how many police officers per capita is a good number?
The main thing government is supposed to do, is protect our rights and freedoms, hence the military, and law enforcement.

Unlike the military, it is the police who usually violate our rights through violations of the 4th Amendment through illegal search and seizures.

End the dumb war on drugs, you'd need much less police on the streets.

The war on drugs is a good money maker for cities and the police. They make an arrest for drugs and then they can seize the property and sell it at auction. The money goes to the police force, city, county etc. They don't want to give up that revenue stream.

Think of the how much lower tax rates could be if you didn't need that enforcement.

Its why ending stupid government action like this is a real conservatives position.

The vast majority of drug arrests are for simple possession, and those people don't have any assets to take.

Cars? Most people have cars.

And its also about keeping them locked up. Prisons create jobs, which makes politicians look better.

My point is that other jobs, ones in which don't **** on the constitution, would be created. But, people like locking people up for years for non violent offenses.
