Fox News Attacked Government Regulation, Ignored Lax Regulation In Meningitis Outbreak | Blog | Media Matters for America

Quote:
Fox News has ignored the role of lax regulation in a multi-state meningitis outbreak that has killed at least 8 people and prompted a Center for Disease Control alert and voluntary recall from the manufacturer of a steroid treatment. The legal status of the medicine in question is murky, and is not subject to strict federal or state regulation. Last year, Fox ran a week-long campaign attacking government regulations, claiming that they would "expose how excessive laws are drowning American business." Fox News has a long track record of attacking government regulation.
This would be what happens when regulations get relaxed on things, people die because of this, regulation is not what strangles a small business it is what helps the business in the long run. Unless you would like to go back to pre-FDA days when a butcher could sell you rancid meat mixed in with good meat that would potentially kill you or your family. This would be a warning to those who keep screaming to de-regulate businesses.

Stupid regulations do strangle businesses, who is suggesting that deregulation allowed for contaminated medicine, or that medical regulations to prevent contaminated medicine strangles businesses?

Mediamatters is an ignorant, partisan, propaganda web site.

Regulation Nation: Drowning in Rules, Businesses Brace for Cost and Time for Compliance | Fox News

Where is Fox News saying that regulations governing the monitoring of compounding pharmacies are drowning those businesses? Where is anyone saying that we need to kill regulations that prevent toxins viruses and bacteria from getting into our food and medicine products?

The outbreak has renewed debate over who should regulate specialty pharmacies which combine, alter active ingredients or both to make custom medications, much like early pharmacists. They are under the control of state pharmacy boards, but critics have pointed to outbreaks of deadly infections linked to compounded pharmacies, as evidence that they need tighter controls by federal agencies.

Don't get angry, get informed!

Some things, like healthcare that impacts people across state lines, is better regulated by the federal government.

Capitalism, government laws, and regulations form the framework of our entire system, you cannot have free markets with out them. I know the left likes to claim Republicans want to eliminate all regulations, but it's a lie and a political talking point,. The American people want sensible regulations, that protect our rights and freedoms, and our safety. We do not want government using federal regulations as their own personal tools, so they can punish certain areas of the private sector in order to push their personal, political, or ideological agendas.
