We do, do we?
I don't believe I've ever said that.

Don't let that stop you, though.
Sweeping generalizations are so very cool; if that's all you've got.
And it's frequently all you've got.

Max burgers are much better than McDonalds.

But the dagensmat from a local cafe usually trumps both.

As to the OP.

I've never been to Sweden but I've been to Denmark. Their social welfare systems are comparable and both comprehensive. However I hear this, "it works in Sweden thing" why not in America. This is obviously a reference to their healthcare, education, and social welfare system...often referred to as the Nordic model. It's tough to compare these nations to the USA apples to apples. Sweden and the rest of the Scandinavian nations operate quite a bit differently. Their size allows them to manage themselves more efficiently and their homogenous demographics plays a large factor as well. A fairly interesting key difference is the ease of starting business in the Nordic counties. The heritage foundation lists the Nordic nations very high in ther indices of economic freedom as the USA falls down on their chart. The Nordic personal income taxes are higher but they have a very hospitable climate for starting small business. As fiddlehead mentioned in a previous post...the Swedish and Scandinavian work ethic is culturally bred into them from their old Protestant roots. It permeates their everyday lives......I mean, just try being late to a Danish persons house. That will land you in trouble quick!

Further on the Nordic economy though...the swedes were in quite the crisis about 20 years ago. Their response to this crisis was to liberalize (small L) their economy. They privatized a lot of key industry and made the tax structure more business friendly all the while retaining the elevated personal income tax rates which worked for them. So it's just hard for a real apples comparison to the USA...on top of that I think they peg their currency to the euro? Could be wrong their..

Did you notice any difference in their political wings? For instance, in the U.S., the Republicans claim to want less government spending, but promote more military spending, and the Democrats claim to want more personal liberty but are going to force the young to participate in socialized health care. Are similar contradictions the norm, isolated, or non-existent there?

Such stupid comments. And look at their logic: One right-winger says liberals love it because everyone is white, and the other says liberals love it because it's being overrun by Muslims. I guess idiocy knows no bounds.

I used to believe Sweden was the greatest country on Earth, but I no longer think it's possible to say that any one country is the "greatest". Sweden, however, would definitely be in my top 5.

And the restaurants are all 'ethnic' & many low-skill jobs are farmed out to those people from elsewhere so they can prove to everyone how lovingly multicultural they are.

It is a great country. Their immigration policies are far stricter than ours.

No, I'd rank Switzerland higher probably. Sweden is certainly one of the best in the world, along with Norway, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.
