Says a Mexican from Mexico-------he flat out told me that Hispanic culture is very White Supremacist.
|
Hmmm...perhaps its because Mexico and other Latin American nations are basically apartheid states where the White/Castilian class descended from Spain lord over the brown? Vincente Fox, Fidel Castro, Pinochet. Those guys could almost be Scandinavians. Its changing a bit- Chavez, the loon in Bolivia.

An ex G/F of mine visited Spain about 25 years ago; a Spanish guy was checking her out her white skin and light hair, saw her eyes and immediately lost interest------her eyes are brown
As for 'ethnic' looking people here in the USA, etc.; especially women, their acceptance is fairly recent-----and, well earned

I wonder if it doesn't have more to do with envy of American culture than it does any genuine idea of beauty.
It's an interesting question - I do know that Japanese people tend to envy American culture, and likewise, Japanese people tend to be very attracted to American people.
Somewhat similarly, American people tend to envy celebrities, and we tend to be attracted to those rich, thin, manicured celebrities that we watch on the big screen and see in magazines.
In neither case do I think it tends to be exactly genuine. But who knows? It's hard to make such diagnoses.

Let's be realistic. If a white person walked into an African American club or into a La Raza club they would not be welcomed. IMO. Were as in an American club the focus would be on America. The many different cultures of this country and yes White people are a part of that culture,

I'm reading all the posts here and tinasgt2005, I don't understand why you seem to think that white children would not be welcome. During my high school and college years there were white/asians who joined AA clubs and vice versa. It just appears that you son and you feel discriminated against, for no legit reason, other than he's white and the other students are black, latino, etc. You never even answered a previous posters question - "has your son made an attempt to join and was refused"? I don't think that he would be. You both are ASSUMING that he would not be welcome. Back in the 60's there were several whites who were part of the civil rights movement
My personal opinion is that your son is interested in starting some sh*t and you're trying to be a part of it. That's just my opinion though, I could be wrong, but only you and your son know the TRUTH!

I don't understand... are you trying to say that other cultures are incapable of their own standards of beauty? It's a fact that "Hispanic" cultures are highly segregated and racially charged. Again, only in America do all "Hispanics," regardless of actual race or physical appearance, get to pretend they're all victims of racist American society!

Hmmm..... I think you're stretching there. It reminds me of a clip of one of those old 1950s "infomentuaries" about Japan. The clip showed Japanese people dancing to Rock and Roll and the typical 1950s narrator was saying, "Every Japanese secretly wishes he or she were American."
It just doesn't jive.

I think it's a chicken or egg type thing. Do evolving standards of beauty drive media, or vice versa? For a while models were rail rail thin. However, I don't know too many guys who would go for a waify, no figure, flat all around fashion model over, say, curvy Jessica Alba.

I was "treasurer" of my college's Black Student Union! (oh yeah, and I'm white).

I agree. But, buttons were meant to be pushed. Nobody should have any problem with a European white club that celebrated European or American culture or whatever. A KKK club on the other hand...

Or based on your comment that you have no use for them?
I, on the other hand, have been a member in a few Hispanic groups (not necessarily La Raza), and there is absolutely no hate there. Real people gathering, talking, laughing and such. It's amazing, isn't it? Who wudda thunk it?
Except that, oh wait, you and your son wanted to start a "Caucasian Club" (despite your attempt to weasel away from this position in subsequent posts).
Bull****. You have already admitted you know nothing of these clubs, have never participated in them at all. So what gives you the expertise to issue such categorical statements about them?
Once again you misunderstand the purpose of these scholarships, and you clearly demonstrate you know very little of race and culture in this country. Are you against scholarships for women? I mean, because that doesn't promote unity either, ya know.
This whole line of rhetoric is so laughable to me. You want unity when your race (or sex or religion or culture) isn't the privileged one in a given context, and so long as the unifying culture is your own.
Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. I'm white, and quite frankly, I have absolutely nothing in common with you. And based on a cursory read of your thoughts, I don't much want to.
So wait - previously you emphasized the importance of unity and how detrimental isolated groups into African American and Hispanic American is. Now you're asking to do the very same thing, but with cultures and ethnicities that happen to have skin color as its only basis for commonality?
Do you even realize that everywhere you turn you're contradicting yourself?
I mean, either come out and say what you're too chicken to - which is that you want your son to have a "whites only" club because all the other skin colors have their own clubs - or else quit with all the ridiculous explanations and rationalizations and just stick to your claim that an "American club" is sufficient (and one that embraces all races, skin colors, and ethnicities).
|
Again I am finding your attacking of me an insult. Me chicken??? I think not apparently you have not read my posts on other threads. I speak my mind. What is funny is that you do not know me. And according to your post you do not want to. That is perfectly okay with me. It is not surprising that someone would automatically say that by creating this club it is a symbol of racism. If you read my last post I used African-American and Mexican-American as a means of describing clubs that have already been created. An American Club would be for kids who don't belong to these club, who do not feel that they belong to the other ones. Please read my posts all the way through and try to not take peices of them and comment if you don't understand. Ask me legitimate questions don't assume you know me or my son.Do you understand or do I need to spell it out slowly for you.
I would appreciate it if you would stop insinuating that my son or I am racist. My question for this thread was would a person think it was okay to create a Caucasian Club. The answer was no not if it was based on color. I expected that, it was suggested that a club with a different name would be better excepted. I agreed. Hence the Name American Club.
And FYI. My son's best friend is Mexican and he would be part of this club so maybe you need to stop assuming and start asking. If you again refer to me as a racist or insinuate that my son or I believe in White Only I will report you.

It is not about starting ****. If you read the original post the idea of this club started in his history class. His history teacher is sponsoring this club but not based on White Only. The creators of this club have strict guidlines they have to follow. And the anwer to your question is no he has not tried to join these clubs but that did come up in that discussion between the students. Several students asked, what would you think if we joined your club? The answer was why would you need to?

I don't know if you guys realize this but Old Mexican people are really racist. My Grandma is racist towards white people and Black people, occasionally middle-eastern people as well.

Okay if you say so, your comment was "One day last week the subject of cultural clubs came up in his history class." You gave everyone elses' response, but the teacher, although his question was "supposedly" directed to the teacher.

this comment right here says the REAL UNDERLYING reason your son is interested in starting a club - and quite honestly you are encouraging and fostering exactly what becomes racism. Instead of sitting down with your child and explaining to him why it is NECESSARY for these organizations to exist, you're trying to help him come up with a club which is basically being started out of jealously and total disregard and understanding. The fact that your son showed absolutely no interest in what the other clubs were about, I suppose their response would be "why would you need to"?
I'm going to be honest it's obvious that you are culturally deprived otherwise when he first brought it up to you, your response would have been different and this thread wouldn't exist right now.

Hispanic people come from many different nations. As well as black or African Americans, they come from dozens of nations as well. Caucasians or white people, since the terms are routinely used interchangeably, also originate from dozens of nations.
If we have a Hispanic History Month or club, and we have a Hispanic History Month or club, then we should have a White History Month and club.
