LOL.The older generation are pretty set in their ways. It is hard to change their beliefs. I think alot of us have some elder members of our family that still have beliefs that are outdated. We have came along way since then but still have a long way to go.

this comment right here says the REAL UNDERLYING reason your son is interested in starting a club - and quite honestly you are encouraging and fostering exactly what becomes racism. Instead of sitting down with your child and explaining to him why it is NECESSARY for these organizations to exist, you're trying to help him come up with a club which is basically being started out of jealously and total disregard and understanding. The fact that your son showed absolutely no interest in what the other clubs were about, I suppose their response would be "why would you need to"?

I'm going to be honest it's obvious that you are culturally deprived otherwise when he first brought it up to you, your response would have been different and this thread wouldn't exist right now.

What do you believe their clubs are about??? What is the purpose of African American Clubs, Hispanic Clubs, Asian, Clubs etc??

Did not not read the basic philosophy of these clubs? To promote Black to promote Jewish to promote Asian. Not promote American. No where did it say anything about different cultures or nationalities other than the one it was created for. How is that promoting unity or acceptance. They were created for black members, asian members, jewish members. What is your point??

I give up you're now pretending to be dumb. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was formed to ensure racial equality/justice, etc. It didn't stop white people from joining. White joined because they had a "desire" to help further the cause.

What is the goal of a Cacasian club, what is the objective? What is there to understand? What reason is there to congregate and teach - American history is taught EVERYDAY all day in school. What is there to know that everyone doesn't already know? So I'm confused about what you're stating. What culture are you looking to promote?

If you nor your son is interested nor sensitive to other cultures-that's your perogative, but don't try to play on peoples' intelligence with that "why can't there be a caucasian club" Just keep it real, that's the best thing you can do. If you don't have an understanding as to why such organizations exist, then you obviously have not had any cultural exposure in life and that's sad.

Unfortunately, you can't make history disappear

Like others have said, perhaps a "German-American," "Irish-American," or even "American" club would more than likely be approved, though the latter should be open to any and all races. As a matter of fact, all of these clubs should be open to anyone. I know the Hispanic and Black clubs at my university were.

I do question the motivation of starting such a club, however. If he's doing it to search for others to identify with a certain heritage, fine. If he's just doing it in spite of these other clubs, he and you are being ridiculous.
Yes, I ditto the above answer. First of all, there is no common bond among "Caucasians", which is really a generic term for lacking in pigment (j/k). What do I, as a Jewish-Slavic Californian, have in common with a German-Baptist from Arkansas? Maybe a few things, but only by chance & certainly not by cultural bonds. Whether or not all Hispanics/Asians/African-Americans have the same background, they have the common bond of being part of a minority group... as a Jew I have some understanding of that, being that I'm often on the outside looking into an Aryan-dominant society. Once you've been pushed aside or REALLY discriminated against, things like a cultural club make more sense.

Anyway, I agree that nobody would have a problem with a culturally-specific (German, Irish, Russian, etc.) club - but to deem it a "White club" is just too close to "White pride" and all of that nonsense. And as Anchorless said, people are welcomed to join the other clubs, even if they aren't of the specific ethnicity... they're intended to increase awareness and cultural pride, not to be exclusive towards anyone else. But when was the last time a "White pride" convention was welcoming to Black & Hispanic visitors? I've been to many African-American cultural activities, and even led a few on Hispanic culture; but ironically, I would be chased away from most White events, once they realized my WHITE ancestors were all Jews. Okay, sorry to ramble, but this is a tricky subject!

I actually agree with the notion that we don't need a "white history month," since what is studied in school is basically European Western Civilization history.

But since white Hispanics make up such a large portion of all hispanics in the US, how does that fit with the existence of "the white club"?
