For what good reason? Are you losing a vast amount of money in international trade? Or you just think that measuring in tens would be more fun? And the U.S. already uses metric where needed.

I suspect any law that forces the country to convert is going to make a lot of money for those who will do the converting. Kinda like O'care. Be more like O'metrics.

What good reason..........because it is a much more logical system.

Metric may be a better system and it may be more logical. America maybe should convert in a perfect world. It would be an incredibly expensive endeavor though and with all the problems facing the nation, why should that be a priority? Metric is already used where necessary. No tangible benefit would be gained by forcing it where it is not and where we can't afford it.

It's like putting a man on mars. Yes, it would be cool and yes scientific advancement is great, but our country isn't in a position to prioritize that today.

In a perfect world, yes, but what I want to know is why people think its worth the investment at this time when our country is falling apart at the seems. Metric is the standard measurement of science already, which is where it really matters. Most younger Americans are familiar with both metric and Imperial, so it doesn't leave them at a global disadvantage. Why then, should our government invest countless billions for a full conversion?

Actually, science uses a lot of different forms, there is no "standard." Notably, scientific notation is not metric or standard, but it could be used by either. Astronomy uses a completely different measuring system than metric or standard. Ergs and Joules are also neither metric nor standard, but used extensively in science.

Most older Americans are also very familiar with both metric and standard units of measure, having received a better education than those educated after 1980.

Would that be US "billions" or UK "billions?" There is a significant difference.

Ergs and joules most certainly are metric.
