If the Cocker Spaniel can sign & agree to a legal marriage contract, and is over the age of consent (not sure if that would be dog or human years?) by all means have at it.
Who gave you the right to impose that marriage rule?
P.S. While I know the conservatives HATE this issue being compared to interracial marriage, I simply have to point out that your arguments are VERY similar to those of the anti-miscegenation crowd back then. It cannot be ignored due to the similarities, and in that case as well, their predictions of chaos & slippery slopes were also proven false.
"First, there's the "slippery slope" idea, which says that if we allow gay marriage, we have to allow all kinds of stuff. Rick Santorum used this idea to make his infamous "man on dog" case against gay marriage. But the argument was made by R. D. McIlwaine III, then Virginia's assistant attorney general, in Loving v. the State of Virginia, the 1967 Supreme Court case that overturned miscegenation laws:
It is clear from the most recent available evidence on the psycho-sociological aspect of this question that intermarried families are subjected to much greater pressures and problems then those of the intermarried and that the state's prohibition of interracial marriage for this reason stands on the same footing as the prohibition of polygamous marriage, or incestuous marriage or the prescription of minimum ages at which people may marry and the prevention of the marriage of people who are mentally incompetent."
Who gave you the right to impose that marriage rule?
Thanks for your vote of confidence, but I am neither a politician nor a judge... so I'm not "imposing" any rules (as clearly I cannot pass laws myself), and the laws of consent have been in existence for a LONG time now.
Since I obviously need to be more clear for some people, here's a list of the laws of consent... if a Cocker Spaniel passes muster on all of these points, THE LAW says you are free to marry him/her. Not my thing, but to each his/her own!
