Cell phones are the only way most of us can stay in contact right now.

Stay in contact with who? Who do you need to stay in contact with? I saw a ton of people standing in the street taking pictures and staring at their phone. I guess they don't need to clean anything up??

As much fun you are poking at people, this pretty much shows exactly why that Federal statement is correct and valid: the mobile networks will be up far before the landlines and power systems are restored. Keeping your phone powered up is the most important life-saving thing you can do.

Oh, that means don't play angry birds folks. Conserve your battery if you don't have power:P

Let's not forget that before the internet became a place for people to argue, purchase socks, and download pornography, it had its roots as a communications network developed for use by military and other institutions that could survive and operate in the face of nuclear attacks or other catastrophes.

Yeah less government, more free market!

Remember what a bang up job BP did handling their oil spill cleanup?

If your in a disaster area, please do tell what tool is more life saving to the general populace? If a Tornado hit a Kansas town, what are people going to do? Use their mobile phone for emergencies, updates, and contact loved ones.

I still have not heard from my uncles or cousins.

My friend did not hear from her parents until someone on her Facebook was able to check for her.

I'm able to check progress on my power coming back on

I'm able to see where they need help in my town on my town website

Should I just wander around aimlessly?

How is a phone going to save your life? Will that phone shield the tornado? Is that the new iphone with the tornado shelter coming out anytime soon? Gimme a break.
