What if the person that you think is a looter is looking for food, or their cat - or trying to rescue a dog left behind. You don't know, so I would just say to use caution about guarding other peoples domiciles. If people care about their stuff, they will make sure they get back to it as soon as possible. If it sits there for a few months, let the looters have at it. It's not your property to guard.
