If anyone wants to donate anything, the shelters really need UNDERWEAR. Dead serious.
Do you have a local link in mind. I am saying that from a distance others might like a trusted link to make a donation to.

I once did research on causes, to find about 4 cents on a dollar made it to the intended. Not into that idea much.

I think I trust you more than just any links on google.

If you want to donate directly to shelters, the best resource is a Facebook page called Jersey Shore Hurricane News.

http://www.facebook.com/JerseyShoreHurricaneNews

They are updating minute by minute as shelters report needs. There are addresses provided of the actual shelters if you would send to send items, and they are updating exactly what is needed (shampoo, underwear, batteries, etc).

Edit: another link collecting shelter needs directly.
https://www.facebook.com/NewJerseyNeeds

Some have set up Amazon registries to make it easy for people to donate supplies that will be shipped via amazon

Nope.

I linked the actual letter requesting funds and the actual code that pertains where the funds would go a few pages back.

The main issue is removing debris and making infrastructure repairs.

I would need to give via a credit card..... Sending a package from NH is kinda moot i think.

Thank you for the link.

I don't think any NYer would ***** and moan if you had a natural disaster in your neck of the woods and FEMA covered it. Isn't that the best places for our taxes to go...keeping our infrastructure as a nation sound and safe? Our infrastructure has been sorely neglected all over the nation as we threw money at The Military Industrial Complex and two wars. As Cuomo stated...

Quote:
NEW YORK STATE -- For the third time in two years, New York was walloped by a major storm. Flooding streets and homes, destroying property and costing billions of dollars in damage. Now Governor Andrew Cuomo says it's a sign that such super storms may be something New Yorkers need to get used to.

“It's not a political statement, it is a factual statement. Anyone who does not say there is a dramatic change in weather patterns I think is denying reality,”...

Last year it was tropical storms Irene and Lee that wreaked havoc across parts of the upstate region. This week, it was Hurricane Sandy that slammed into New York City and the surrounding area, forcing people in low-lying areas to flee their homes and causing widespread power outages. And each storm produces surreal images, like a 40 foot boat stuck on commuter rail tracks in Westchester County. Cuomo says when the city rebuilds, it has to do so with future flooding disasters in mind.

Cuomo said, “As we're going through the reconstruction and we're rebuilding, we have to find ways to build this city back better than it was ever before.”

Cuomo did not use the phrase climate change or suggest that human activity is creating the unusual weather patterns. Still, Cuomo said the reconstruction effort will be expansive.

“This is not going to be a short term situation,” Cuomo said. “This is going to be a long term recovery and reconstruction effort.”

NY will be the model for what is necessary to protect coastline cities. Do you think that NY should disappear? Really now.

I was also stunned by pknopp's assertion, and I notice that his post has been deleted. There's lots of news coverage about the July derechos in West Virginia, including the changes the second one inspired to FEMA requirements when homeowners saw delays in the relief they had been promised. Seems as though there were quite a few people in the OP's area who sought financial help from the feds.

The thread is about NYC paying a portion of their own expenses. The usual is 25% but the Mayor is asking to pay 0%. You don't believe they should pay any of the repairs to the infrastructure ?

What is their "Fair Share" as Obama would say ? There is a lot of wealth in NYC.

So we're supposed to give money to a state that chose to get itself into a situation where they don't have the money?

Kind of like my neighbor blowing his income on booze and porn, then coming over and demand that I give him money so he can feed his kids.

I don't recall liberals sparing any sympathy for Texas when Obama denied them funds for wildfires.

Considering that many of those affected are VERY wealthy, the request is disgusting.
