My company was sued for gender discrimination. It went to court, they proved their case, and the co had to cough ~12 million. So, people who are receiving similar performance reviews with similar levels of education with the same years of experience are being paid the same or within a range. If an employee is lagging they are canned.

For the most part women do not do...or can't do...the work that MEN do. Some of the stinky/icky jobs that men excel at are also the best paying.
