Mr. Calhoun! Nice to see you again, old boy!

Ten points for anyone who gets that reference.

I love the idea of increased power to the states. We have different states for a reason. The central government keeps getting more and more power anyway.

Senator and Vice President John Calhoun of South Carolina.

Collects 10 points.

Calhoun was at loggerheads with President Jackson over that whole deal - Jackson saw the sectional crisis coming.

That doesn't mean that the modern-day nullification proponents are wrong - or that it will lead to a Civil War.

I do hope that they succeed.

I support some of those laws and hope a few of them pass....though with the healthcare ones, every American should have healthcare, and if one can't afford it, it should be provided. Any state that doesn't have access to affordable healthcare in the future are going to be the states that will fall behind from the rest of the coubtry, so I hope these states vote wisely because a few of them are already at the bottom of the list.

Nullification has been dead since 1861 and only a true idiot would not know that. I do see some partisan politicians are willing to shake the tree for nutjob voters though. I do have to wonder why those losers never seem to figure out how they're getting played for fools, year after year, but they never do seem to figure it out. There is a sucker born every minute.
