Well, let's see...who vetoed legislation that would provide health insurance to uninsured children? Oh yeah, a Republican president.
Who said ketchup was a vegetable? Oh yeah, a Republican president.
What party consistently opposes any legislation to give working families a break? The Republicans.

I believe we were using a similar study to document the points. I still think that we don't have empirical data because it is self-reported. You can't get research dollars on self-reported information, and this is such a personal matter, it may not be possible to know, for a fact, why women are seeking an abortion, or how often they have an abortion--many will deny their abortions, while others may even exaggerate the number of abortions they've had.
The fact is we should work toward eliminating the high number of abortions, and all the attendant issues surrounding child-bearing and rearing. No doubt about that in my view.

Ketchup? LOL! President Bush vetoed legislation that gave $80K families FREE health care. $80K is NOT needy. He's all for kids health care for NEEDY families. Get the facts straight. You're looking silly.
Gimme something better or give it up.

I AGREE with you on working towards eliminating the high numbers. It's shocking to me, just almost unbelievable. I wish I knew the answer to lowering teen pregnancy which is the largest number seeking abortions. Parents being more in-tune and in-touch probably, but it's hard to instill parenting to parents ~ some just don't know how or don't care. We need a solution, that's for sure.

Actually, Cornell University is doing workshops for parenting, and one of the primary goals is teaching parents how to parent. I have the curriculum here somewhere. I'm going to check to see if it includes pregnancy and sex education. If it doesn't I may write or call the director and see if he'll include it.

You know, it would make great sense for colleges and universities (maybe high schools) around the country to provide a space / place for free parenting classes. I'm sure there would be volunteers that would love to help! And everyone lives relatively close to a high school, junior college or university ~ maybe that would be a start. Maybe I'll write to my local university (University of Oklahoma) and see what response I get ~ thanks for the idea

I know of a few in NYS (NYC, 2; Upstate 2); several in CA, and one in Chicago IL). I suspect there are more but these are programs I've been personally involved with over the years.
Yes, give it a try! Worth a shot!

The Reality is over 70% of the potential recipeints are under $42k for a family of four. Income caps differ by state. There is no state with an $83k income cap. If you have a source, please provide??
The new bill passed by congress closes the loopholes for illegals, addresses state income cap levels, all the things people were throwing out there as excuses that Bush "really does care".
Bush has said he will veto anything that includes a cigarette tax - which was going to be used to fund the health care.
Bush has also said he will veto a new water bill to help fix the wetlands and help build up sites to protect against future hurricanes along the gulf. Even though there are enough bipartisan votes in Congress to overturn his veto.
Bush's agenda for his last year -
1. Veto anything Congress tries to pass that involves helping our country domestically.
2. Continue to throw dump money in Iraq.
3. And oh yeah, drop some bombs on Iran.
