New documentary - abortion in USA...
New documentary takes unflinching look at abortion in USA...
"Lake of Fire," currently on limited release in the United States, unwinds over more than two and a half hours of interviews with some of the leading figures from the pro-life and pro-choice camps.
I don't think I could watch this movie but it is out there with all the ugly truth.

You should have been with me in the sixties. I could have shown you the truth. I personally took a teenager to the hospital when she was hemorhaging from a bootleg scrape. (Not my child, by the way) I knew of girls who threw themselves down flights of stairs in attempts to have a miscarriage. And I knew there were lists of doctors (and granny midwives, like Frank Sinatra's mother) who would perform an illegal abortion for some money under the table. So let's deal with a little realpolitik here.
I am not in favor of abortion but I realize is has been with us for millennia. I also agree with the Supreme Court decision which said a woman had a right to one. It was Sandra Day O'Connor who noted that, whatever the decision, it was men making judgments about what women can do with their bodies. I agree with the former president who said abortion should be safe, available and rare.
Let's push contraception and sex education and thereby reduce the number of abortions.

Reason, moderation, and tolerance does not bode well for "Christian" fundamentalist conservatives. Anti-Contraception is being pushed to the fundie movement through the Catholic influence. No condoms, no pill, no diaphragms.

You know, I'm a Roman Catholic and Catholic dogma does not bar contraception. Many folks don't know that. There is a theological problem with artificial contraception and that's where the definitial problems start.
But abortion ain't contraception.

Well, this thread is sort of a three-quel. Or four-quel? Maybe more.
The topic of abortion has been repeatedly explored here. Some people just can't get enough of it.
Do a search of this forum if you want to get a preview of the, um, coming attractions.

I struggle with abortion. It is the female who has the responsibility of carrying the child for 9 months. But....it takes the woman AND the guy to get pregnant. I've always felt that the father should have some voice in the decision. And I struggle with WHY they got pregnant? Please don't reply with the "accidents happen" theory. That's a lot of accidents every year! And how many women have multiple abortions because of "forgetting"? I don't know.....just typing out loud :-)

In some countries abortion is actually banned, but does any one know of one they wish they could live in, such as Saudia Arabia, especially if you're a woman?

I do not personally believe in abortion except in extreme circumstances(rape ,incest) Abortion has become a means of birth control for alot of women. They now have the day after pill which I think is okay because conception has not taken place yet.I remember when douche bag Clinton fought so hard for the Partial Birth abortion. Has anyone ever seen a video on that? That is absolutly heartbreaking. As for the arguement against men having a say in the abortion, the baby has their DNA also. Why should they not have a say in it??

I am extremely reluctant to let any politician tell me what to do with my body. I believe what is good for me (male) is good for them (female). I think the governments should not have any say in what a woman does with her body including terminating a pregnancy.
