Great news everyone. We've already compromised on how to slash the deficit in half, it's called the fiscal cliff. Everyone, from the 1%ers to the minimim wage employees WILL ALL have monetary skin in the game this time around in tackling our budgetary problems. We're also slashing spending on both GOP and Democratic pet programs. The good news is that all we have to do is sit back and let it run its course. Brace for a recession and high unemployment for a few years, and then enjoy seeing our country live on for another century.

How often in medicine is it that sometimes the cure can be more painful than the disease? Welp, this is a bit like this.

The military cuts would be good. It would just bring military spending to Clinton era levels.

It's actually good that it's a democrat president who will have to impose a little austerity on his same voters who now expect government handouts will fall like manna from the sky onto them. They really don't see what's coming.

Yep. As a libertarian, it pains me that this cliff comes with tax increases, but I've done my research and we are talking about real cuts in federal spending which we need so badly.

They'll still blame Bush and the Republicans. Regardless of who actually makes the cuts.

What about the platforms lead you to believe that the U.S. will suspend Keynesian economics?

But won't the people who lose their jobs be accused of not (no longer) having skin in the game?

And states will continue to soak the poor, probably even step it up a notch or two.

If the deficit is going to be tackled, I think those who lose their jobs should not expect years of unemployment handouts. And food stamps may become less generous -- that will be their skin in the game.
