The reason why poverty has improved is because the mountainside slums have finally received things like power and protection from the police. It is not like all the people who live in those slums are all of a sudden gaining wealth. They are just getting their living standards on par with any semi civilized society.

Brazil is the perfect example of how Government meddling and Crony Capitialism create gigantic wealth gaps.

Latin America Wealth Gap Climbing, Despite Progress Against Poverty: UN

While Latin America has made great strides in reducing poverty in recent years, paradoxically, the continent
has witnessed a sharp widening of the income gap between the rich and the poor.

According to a study by the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements (UN-Habitat), on average, the wealthiest 20 percent of Latin Americans earn 20 times more than the 20 percent at the bottom.
ALL of LatAm is a mess.

All the idiots threatening secession fail to remember that the US military would have a thing or two to say about it.

I'm not real sure now IF the military would even listen to Obama IF most of the US told Wash DC to pound sand. You gotta remember that MOST soldiers, officers and so on come from "red" states and the red parts of "blue" states.

I just hope it NEVER comes to secession IMHO.

You can't sell soybeans and cotton forever, my friend.
That's OK, Florida & TX are both produce producing states also. I guess with those Super storms blowing through NJ & NY you'll be able to put a wind turbine on top of every home.

There would be mass choas in the north without the gas and oil sucked out of the south.

BTW, I'll use my Dell Laptop powered by TI chips to call you on your Chinese built Apple Phone.

Both sides need to just drop this. I've posted more maps that clearly demonstrate that even if secession were a possibility, which it isn't, there is absolutely no way to geographically separate "blue" areas from "red".

wow...so little , but so wrong

cali is the number 1 producer...but it doent produce MOST pof the nations produce...btw texas is number 2

and you are forgetting many other states
Georgia: More peanuts, pecans and poultry are grown in Georgia than in any other state. Georgia also ranks second in acres of cotton and rye and third in peaches and fresh market tomatoes

North Carolina: Agriculture is North Carolina's number one industry, accounting for nearly one quarter of the state's income, 30 percent of the acreage and 22 percent of the work force. It is one of the most diversified agriculture states in the nation, growing over 80 commodities. North Carolina produces more sweet potatoes than any other state and ranks second in the production of hogs, turkeys, Christmas trees and trout

but lets break things down a little further:
The top five beef producing states are Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska and South Dakota.
the top five chicken producing states are: Georgia, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina
the top six pork producing states are: Iowa , north carolina, nebraska, indiana, missouri, oklahoma
top five corn producing states: Iowa, Illinois , Nebraska, Minnesota, Indiana
top five apple producung states: Washington, New York, Michigan, California, and Pennsylvania
top six potato producing states: Idaho , Washington , Wisconsin , Colorado , Oregon , North Dakota
top five peach producing states: California, South Carolina, Georgia, New Jersey, Michigan
top four broccoli producin states: California, Arizona, Oregon, and Texas

notice cali isnt mentioned a real lot...yes a few times..and a couple of number1s , but certainly not the top producer that you make it out to be

do not include california in this equation, as most of californias water comes from the red state Arizona.
take that water away from california, and californias southern farmlands would be nothing but desert.
