I thought Obama was decreasing the size of government and deficits. He pledged to cut the deficit in half. Clearly Obama shares the same virtue as the GOP, so why isnt it happening?

The Republican party should look into the mirror on that issue, my man. During the Bush Administration the Republicans could care less about the debt and deficits. Remember Cheney's comment, deficits don't matter?

As far as Romney is concerned, he was also a complete hypocrite on the debt and deficit. He never came out and said how he would pay for his increased spending and tax cuts. His only proposal was to attack Big Bird. A real leader you had in him.

Democrats have been better on the deficit and debt than the Republicans in the past twenty years. Smell the coffee!

You seem to be living in 2004 when that's what Tea Party about. It's now 2012 and the original grassroots Tea Party has been all but lost because of the religious right having co-opted it.

Smaller government that can still get things done is not a bad idea. Nor is a smaller deficit, obviously. But as long as you've got old white guys talking about rape being God's will while flying the Tea Party flag, well, you're not going very far.

Emphatically Yes. And nearly destroyed the country in its wake too...

As a leftie I would still like to be able to respect and even admire some people on the opposite spectrum of Politics.

I think having respect for the other party is healthy, you might not agree with what they propose but still at least have a modicum of respect for them. The Republican party seems to have been taken over by a bunch of moronic fanatic extremists who believe that screaming the loudest and throwing their toys out of the pram is a mature way to handle real issues which is quite frankly pathetic.

The fact that moderate Republicans have seen fit to let this happen, intelligent, educated and I am hoping rational people is beyond me.

Politics is always bound to be divisive but unless both sides learn to live with each other and respect the other side there is no way forward and the whole population suffers. It is bad for the country and I cannot fathom what the Republicans were thinking in the last few years with the tea-party, birthers, morons like Palin, extremists like Palin, Santorum ,Bachman and Ryan.... Where the hell are the intelligent balanced Republicans ? Because if one follows the path of the GOP in the last few years something has gone seriously, seriously wrong.

Obstructionism just because is stupid, dangerous and ill thought out. All it does is prevent any kind of progress. The have behaved like five year olds having a tantrum for far too long.

It is time for the Republicans to take stock and try and reform a party with a little bit more kudos. Quite frankly the whole thing has been an embarassment and the whole world has been laughing . Time to regain a little respect and credibility as the opposition.

If you can't work at all with the other side ( whichever side you are on) you are doomed to miserable failure IMO.

Obama won largely because of minority groups. Only 45% of white's voted for Obama.

So--implicitly you're calling Hispanics and blacks dumber.

But we'll get to that another time.

As prima-facia evidence that the Republican party has been taken over by the extremist right-wing (Tea Party types, the Religious-Right, Ayn Randites, etc.)

XKCD Charts Congress over time.

Look how far right the house gets in the past twenty years.
