NCLB..everyone is a winner, no child left behind and all that fluffy PCness.
Average American has an 8th grade reading/comprehension level.
They are taught to believe what they read. No critical thinking involved.

Honest or dishonest, alcohol, tobacco, paper products, personal items, hot food and pet food are not eligible for SNAP spending.

Just look in their cart and see what they are buying.

I people watch while I'm waiting on line. Then I try to come up with a generic name for them based on what I see them putting on the conveyor belt. This is just the person(s) in front of me while I wait for my turn. I also take their clothing into account.

I've seen "organic mom", "fast food freddie", "national brand name yuppie girl", "Asian who cooks from scratch", etc.

You see the whole gamut of what people buy and it really does fit the stereotype.
For example..
Asians buy lots of fresh fruits/vegetables, raw meat and very little pre-processed food and almost no junk food.
Your weight challenged folks buy mostly pre-processed, frozen food and lots of junk food.
Your frugal shoppers buy mostly store brands and have their wad of coupons ready and challenge the cashier on "price checks".

What I don't do though is watch them pay. I don't care and it's none of my business.

Congress has the ability to ignore the substantial lobby and eliminate junk food and soft drinks as eligible SNAP card purchases anytime they care to do so.

But heck, it's good for Pepsico's bottom line and employment and it's just so darn easy to blame Democrats for everything.

Pretty much, since it's Republicans whose world views are characterized by hatred and resentment of poor people coupled with a preternatural desire to control what people do in their private and personal lives.

They won't though. The fast food lobby is begging Congress to allow fast food to be paid with EBT cards.
Did you know that ? They say their food is healthy now.
