No they weren't. Nazi stands for Nazionalsocializmus which in English means National Socialism. Social Democrats are not socialists, they are capitalists that support a large welfare state

Wow, you are really something. That right there is an amazing statement said with even more amazing conviction. I would have thought that an illustrated poster of stabbing a Nazi symbol would have hinted these might not be the same, but I guess when you've got conviction you don't take hints from nothing and from no one.

Just joshing. It's an honest mistake, they both have similar words in them, but don't be mislead because when you're translating stuff from other languages you'll see a lot of similar words often for completely different things. Socialism has a very different ring in other countries and is nothing close to a bad word in most parts of the developed world. It's simply one of many different systems and is very divided from communism. US politics seem to have conflate the two over the years, so when a lot of people read our (or even someone from the US in earlier eras) tirades against socialism and communism now, they would be thoroughly confused.

It's NOT an honest mistake. It's an ignorant mistake. A person who lacks all basic knowledge is just like a pair of clanging symbols and pounding drums. They just make a lot of noise.
