In a feature story in yesterday's Chicago Tribune there was a lengthy discussion about the growth and expansion of foreign students seeking entrance into American colleges and universities. According to the report, Chinese students form the largest group of overseas students ... and their numbers are rising.
In another report cited by Fox News in the last academic year, nearly 820,000 foreign students where attending institutions of higher education in the US, contributing $24 Billion to the US economy. The second largest group of foreign students are from India, according to the US-based Institute of International Education.
One can extrapolate both positive and negative results from this booming growing industry of providing advanced higher education to foreign students. It may be a boon the universities in the short run - greater income and profits, more jobs, enhanced prestige; on the other hand ... what skills, technologies, and strategies are we exporting to countries that our rivals and competitors will profit from?
We should at least give them work permits and require them to stay in the US for awhile after they graduate to contribute to our economy.
As a matter of fact we do. There's a relatively straightforward path from a student visa to a green card. I doubt those Chinese and Indian students are looking forward to going back home.

I don't believe it's actually required. And it should be set up before they even come to the US to attend school, as a condition of them being allowed to come in the first place.

No we Americans want them to not come and take place of US children. It is not true that they pay. It was at Fox News multiple times. They study at expense of US citizens. We want them go home.

Do not worry we know what you want. And our immigration service will not give you visas. You are criminals who come at tourist visas and stay at expenses of US tax payers and you want US give you green card?
We know what you doing and as you saw in another thread about cap doors are closing for you.

WTF? I am a US citizen. I was born here, as were my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.
I don't particularly want foreigners to take the place of American kids in our universities either. However, if they're going to study here, they should be required to use what they've learned to benefit our economy. Also we do need to attract the best and brightest from other countries to some extent to compete on a global scale.

Man we talk here about Indians and Chinese illegal immigrants. Not about Germans and Japanese head of development. Guys who come here at tourist visas and convert it to student visas are for you best and brightest?

Not according to yesterday's Philadelphia Daily Metro newspaper: "Chinese students form the largest overseas group at US universities and their numbers are rising, as families spend a fortune in the quest for an American education to pry open the door to career and social success."

No no no no, they pry door for American green card and we Americans close that door. Nice try.

All of it.
[we would do the same in their position]
