I thought you Canadians had free speech? Could have fooled me...people can't even express opinions on a forum without some pc whiner getting upset over it...What the hell are these human rights tribunal...they really should call them what they are...anti white racist tribunals...I doubt any non white has ever been brought to one of these for being "racist" towards a white person online or in real life...

Regina man gets jail for racist messages - Saskatchewan - CBC News

I hope he has some support in jail, jailing old men for speaking their minds...doesn't surprise me I am only shocked amurica hasn't caught up with them yet...

Poor old man is being forced to live off welfare because his livelihood has been destroyed with these idiotic liberals/communists making it unable for him to find or hold down work...constantly harassing him, throwing him in jail.A nation is no longer free when we can not express our discontent with it.

I'm glad I don't live in Canada as I've written some really nasty stuff on this board. Can I take it all back? Please? Because I really don't want to go to jail because I got angry and went off...even though I didn't act on it, and won't.

Canada's free speech laws do not protect hate speech or defamation.

Canada doesn't have real rights, they have privileges that can be overturned by law.

His livelihood has been destroyed by liberals? Somehow liberalism has abolished math teachers?

If you read the comments on the linked article you will see what has been clarified here: they don't have freedom of speech in Canada. This kind of thing couldn't happen in the United States, and if it was even tried he could count on the ACLU, hated by conservatives here at City-Data, to defend his freedom of speech.

No it will happen here. American Progressives are already experimenting with the concept of "acceptable free speech", ie making it illegal to say things that -might- lead to violence. Notice how the guy who made the allegedly incendiary Mohammed Youtube video has been jailed?

And don't count on the ACLU helping here in any meaningful way. While they occasionally make a token defense of non-Progressive speech they mostly ignore the issue.

Oh please. The ACLU defends anyone whose very speech comes under attack by the government - they are constantly defending churches, conservative groups, extreme right-wing groups, and even hate groups. Not to mention there are many conservative members of the ACLU (Bob Barr comes to mind).

For violating the probation terms of his check fraud convictions. Nothing whatsoever to do with his speech.
