Another outdated institution in it's death throws trying to cling to power.
That's been said about the Catholic Church over and over, as political institutions come and go, for centuries.
It's still here, and they mostly aren't.
(To no one's surprise, the fanatics who support the political institutions can't even spell "throes", much less understand what it means or even correctly spell the possessive "its".)

BTW, the Supreme Court handed down its decision on Obamacare some months ago, they decided (however wrongly) that the mandate was constitutional because it was a tax rather than a penalty.
But another case may come before the Supreme Court soon, dealing with the issue in this thread: Whether Congress can force religious institutions to do things that are fundamentally against their religious beliefs (such as forcing them to pay for programs that support birth control or abortions).
That new case may come before the Court as soon as next year, and is more or less unrelated to the first Obamacare case.
That's cool, pay the fine and continue to alienate women. You think catholic women don't want or use contraception? I hope they buck, because it will expedite their inevitable demise.
This isn't about the contraception used or not used by practitioners of a particular religion. This is about the government deciding it has the right to mandate what compensation must be paid by an employer. No employer should be forced to give something to it's employees it doesn't want to. No government should have the ability to force an employer to pay for something it doesn't want to provide it's employees. Employment contracts and compensation should be between the employer and employee, and should include ONLY those items the two parties want included. If someone doesn't like the compensation being offered, they can choose not to accept the job.
That's 629 hospitals, 400 health centers, and 1500 specialized homes. Their closure would be devastating to hundreds of thousands of patients.
So you are fine with putting the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in jeopardy just to keep insurance companies from covering contraceptives as part of their overall insurance package? See, this is why I no longer call myself a Christian. They have proven to be such a mean, vindictive, godless bunch.
What does religion have to do with an emploer/employee relationship?
If you're a religious organization you have the right to your religion. If your religion is violated by buying something for your employees, that's what it has to do with it.
They are not going to close hospitals. They will take it to the courts as us Americans have a right to do when we feel a law is unconstitutional. What if people had simply accepted the law under Brown v. the Board of Education?
"The re-election of President Barack Obama may ignite a showdown with Catholic leaders over a federal mandate that religiously affiliated charities, universities and hospitals provide birth control coverage to their employees.
'The Catholic Church is not going to back down,' said Denver Auxiliary Bishop James Conley, who will start as the new bishop of the Lincoln Diocese on Nov. 20. 'We are never going to compromise our principles. We will defy it and face the consequences.'”
How far is President Obama prepared to take this?
Forgive me for not having much sympathy. While a lot of us were fighting it, the US Catholic Bishops were pushing for universal health care. They have been pushing it for years. The Catholic Health Association? (can't remember the name exactly) even helped write Obamacare. The only part they don't like is the birth control part, otherwise they think it's peachy keen. While I agree that we needed reform in areas like pre-exisiting conditions and moving care from state to state, we didn't need a total federal government takeover. I for one will not forget that a large part of the blame belongs to them.
Bishop Conley might want to check what's going on with his own church. Catholics voted for Obama over Romney 50% to 48%. And a whopping 76% of Hispanic Catholics voted for Obama.
The Bishop and his ilk are shaking their fists at Obama. And the majority of people going to Mass are voting for him. Hysterical. God bless America. Where citizens, not subjects, are able to vote for who they want. Not who the Church wants.

No, if you don't want to deal with things required of employers it's simple, don't be an employer.
That has nothing to do with religion.
