so why do neocons keep spouting about how America saved France in ww2, as if France has never done anything for America?

No arguement. We saved them in WWI and WWII. Makes us even. Besides, who cares about France any more? They are pretty trivial, unless you're a big wine fan.

The fact that they helped first is relevant because they existed before America did. Additionally, The US would never exist in its current form if not for the French. You'd be bowing to a queen, eating triscuits and tea, firearms would be outlawed like in England! The French saved this nation. Period!

This country may not exist if it weren't for France.

Neocons don't like France because they are a modern socialist-democratic country ...but generally liberals like France.

OK. We've repaid that debt. What more do you want? We all have to love France? I don't hate France or love it. Truth be told, I don't even think about France.
