Democratic Solution To The Filibuster: Make Them Talk

Hopefully with this going into play during the new year the republicans abuse of the filibuster can finally be put to an end instead of this constant blockade. Now when you call a filibuster you will have to actually BE ON RECORD as being against the bill and will NOW HAVE TO ACTUALLY ARGUE your position as to why you are against it. Good I say now these cry babies who keep throwing a monkey wrench into the works will have to actually stand by their convictions as to why they don't like a specific bill and not only that but now they will be identified as to who is against it.

I am not holding my breath, Reid let me down with this the last time I thought he was gonna do away with the silent filibuster, then he ended up having a handshake agreement with McConnell that fell apart the moment their hands stopped shaking.

I so happy this past two years has helped Reid realize that he was an idiot for trusting McConnell and his word, it is time to do away with the silent filibuster so that our country's government can get back to functioning again.

Under the current Senate rules, a rule change to the filibuster could also be filibustered. Futhermore, it would require two-thirds of the Senate to break the filibuster instead of the usual three-fifths. Last time I checked the Senate had 55 Democrats and 45 Republicans. Looks like Reid is 12 votes short of what he needs to change the filibuster rules.

Do not hold your breath.

This is the single most needed reform in the country. Personally, I'd just get rid of the lame not in the constitution requirement for 60 votes and make it a simple majority rule.

great, lets keep this rule in play when the democrats are in the minority as well. let them talk too. with all that hot air coming from reids piehole, he should be able to keep up the talk for at least 2-3 weeks.

They've abused this strategy long enough...make them work at it if this how they want to proceed.

Even this allows them to unreasonably obstruct the will of the people. Make it a simple majority, as the constitution intended, and just call it a day.

please remember that when the dems were in the minority, they abused that strategy as well. the dems wont be the majority power forever. there will be a time sometime in the future that the dems will be made to blow hot air out their pieholes too, just like the repubs will have to do.

Go check the numbers. The GOP has set a record. What's the problem anyway? It will work both ways.
I guess the ones introducing new rules are not that concerned that it will affect them as much...no?
